Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1138

Camila had never been in a position like this before. The heat in her cheeks crept all the way to her ears, making her feel lightheaded. She tried to shift, to move away, but Dennis wouldn’t let her. His lips brushed against her ear, his voice a low, rough whisper.

“It’s all right. If you feel unsteady, I’ll hold you. You won’t fall with me here.”

The way he said it sent shivers down her spine, the intimacy thick in the air around them. For a moment, Camila thought he was going to pick her up and carry her to the bed, but she quickly realized she was wrong. He had never planned to let her face him. The heat radiating from him was almost overwhelming.

The room grew warmer and warmer. Camila felt her whole body flush with embarrassment and something she didn’t want to name. She was too exhausted to push him away. Dennis kept one arm locked around her, the other holding her wrists above her head. His eyes were dark, hungry, completely focused on her.

Only Dennis knew how irresistible she was. Her skin felt like melted cream, soft and sweet. Her waist was so gentle under his touch, he never wanted to let go. He couldn’t help but mold her into an even more tempting shape, his gaze full of love but also something possessive.

The night was a blur of tangled sheets and whispered confessions, leaving Camila breathless and spent.

No surprise, she woke up late the next morning. The ache in her muscles brought back every memory of what happened. Her face burned again as she thought about it. That man always bullied her like this when it came to things like that. The more she begged him to stop, the more excited he became, until in the end, she didn’t even remember when she’d finally passed out.

She scanned the room but Dennis was gone. After dragging herself out of bed and getting cleaned up, she went to look for him.

She found him in the courtyard with Lillian. The two of them were painting together in the gentle morning sun. The light wrapped around them, father and daughter, making the whole scene feel soft and peaceful, like a memory you never want to let go of.

Camila watched, her heart full. For a moment, all she could feel was this quiet happiness floating through the air. She wished life could always be this simple.

Lost in thought, she didn’t notice Dennis was looking at her until he caught her gaze. She blinked and made her way over to them. She looked at Lillian’s drawing first, then turned to Dennis.

“No work today?” she teased.

He slipped an arm around her, urging her to sit down beside him. “I’ll have to step out a bit later,” he said, his voice gentle. “Lillian can keep you company while I’m gone.”

“Sounds good. Go on, I’ll be fine.” Camila smiled, actually looking forward to having more time with their daughter.
