“It’s all right. If you feel unsteady, I’ll hold you. You won’t fall with me here.”

The way he said it sent shivers down her spine, the intimacy thick in the air around them. For a moment, Camila thought he was going to pick her up and carry her to the bed, but she quickly realized she was wrong. He had never planned to let her face him. Lost in thought, she didn’t notice Dennis was looking at her until he caught her gaze. She blinked and made her way over to them. She looked at Lillian’s drawing first, then turned to Dennis.

“No work today?” she teased.

He slipped an arm around her, urging her to sit down beside him. “I’ll have to step out a bit later,” he said, his voice gentle. “Lillian can keep you company while I’m gone.”

“Sounds good. Go on, I’ll be fine.” Camila smiled, actually looking forward to having more time with their daughter.
