Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1150

As he spoke, he pulled her a little closer, his grip gentle but firm. “I wanted to surprise you. That’s why I didn’t mention I was coming back,” he said, sounding a little helpless. “Didn’t expect to get scared the second I landed. I just finished dealing with everything here. Don’t be upset anymore, okay?”

This side of Jordan Smith was nothing like the cold, intimidating guy from earlier. It was like he was a different person altogether.

Aurora Robinson, still looking icy, tried to yank her hand free. Jordan must have had some trick up his sleeve, because no matter how hard she pulled, she couldn’t get away. Annoyed and embarrassed, she glared at him. “Let go.”

He didn’t budge. Instead, he glanced coolly at Larry Adams, clearly telling him it was time to go.

Larry got the message right away. “Ms. Robinson, I think we’re done here. I’ll head out now.”

He left, bringing Sarah Brown with him and even remembered to softly close the study door behind them.

Sarah’s eyes were as wide as saucers. If she hadn’t seen it herself, she never would have believed that her brother could be so gentle and sweet. Usually, Jordan was all threats and tough love with her, but with Aurora, he was practically a teddy bear. The double standard was unreal.

She leaned closer to Larry, whispering, “Why did I never notice my brother was so totally under her thumb?”

Larry tried not to laugh. “Isn’t that good for you? You’ve got backup now.”

She thought about it, nodding. “You’re right. Jordan listens to everything Aurora says. If I get on his nerves again, I’ll just ask her to put in a good word for me. No way he’ll dare lay a finger on me.”

Once her shock wore off, Sarah finally remembered to check on Larry. “By the way, you were in there forever. Did Jordan give you a hard time?”

She looked genuinely worried.

Larry smiled and shook his head. “Nope. He was actually pretty reasonable. Not as scary as you think.”

Sarah squinted at him, clearly suspicious. Her brother’s sudden shift in attitude when Aurora walked in was weird enough, but acting nice to Larry? That was hard to believe. Still, she checked him over, making sure he was in one piece, and finally relaxed.

“Maybe Aurora showed up just in time, before he could do anything. Whatever, let’s just get out of here while Jordan’s distracted. This is not the place to hang around.”

She figured she’d come back later, once her brother had calmed down.

Sarah grabbed Larry and hurried back to her room. They got changed in record time, then slipped out of the house together.

Outside, Sarah felt her head clear. She finally had time to ask, “So, what did you and my brother talk about?”
