Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1153

Cynthia gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder, her voice soft and reassuring. "None of this is your fault, or Jordan's. There's no way either of you could have known that Lavinia Roberts and Sandra Taylor would turn out to be so twisted."

She hesitated, then asked, "So… Camila Davis, is she really not coming back this time?" Worried that Audrey might catch on to her true intentions, Cynthia quickly explained, "I mean, I never really liked her, but as a girl myself, I do feel bad about what happened to her. Getting kidnapped is horrible. Plus, this whole thing is affecting Dennis, and honestly, I'm mostly just worried about Jordan…"

"I get it," Audrey said, nodding. "From what I heard, it was some really dangerous group from overseas. Once someone falls into their hands, there's almost no way out. They're supposed to be completely ruthless. Cynthia, I'm only telling you this because I trust you. If Jordan comes by later, please don't bring it up. I don't want him to get more upset."

She looked genuinely concerned, as if she was really worried about how Dennis might be handling things.

Cynthia nodded. "Don't worry. I won't say anything. I know where to draw the line."

Audrey finally let out a breath and smiled. "Thank you, Cynthia. You're such a good friend. I really needed to talk to someone about this. It feels good not to keep everything bottled up. You know, I used to think what mattered most was how Jordan felt. But after all this, I realized you'd actually make a great sister-in-law. I mean, your background, your personality, you and Jordan are such a good match. And we get along so well too. Once Jordan gets through this and lets go of Camila, I'm definitely going to play matchmaker for you two. Honestly, I don't think he could ever find someone better than you to be my sister-in-law."

As she finished, Audrey wrapped her arm around Cynthia's, her tone warm and affectionate.

Inside, Cynthia was practically bursting with happiness and pride. Back when Dennis chose Camila Davis, Audrey had turned her back on her too. Now look—she was coming right back, wanting to be close again. Girls who grew up sheltered were just too easy to fool.

Cynthia wasn't about to waste this chance.

Audrey, completely unaware, kept chatting with Cynthia like nothing was wrong. Around lunchtime, Audrey leaned in and said, "I'm going to ask my brother to come see me. Cynthia, if you get the opportunity, try and talk to him a bit more, okay?"

Cynthia didn't rush to agree. She looked a little worried. "Maybe we shouldn't make it too obvious. Jordan's not in a good place right now. What if it just makes things worse?"
