Camila Davis froze for a second. “Wait, that’s actually happening?”
She quickly pulled out her phone and started searching online. To her surprise, it was true.
The official account for the medical school hadn’t posted anything since the announcement. They’d gone completely silent—no updates, no statements, nothing.
But every single day, trending topics about her mentor were popping up all over the internet, always sticking around at the top of the feed.
At first, people in the comments were full of praise.
But as the weeks dragged on—over two weeks now—more and more voices of doubt started to appear.
“Why is Dr. Morris acting like such a celebrity lately? Is he planning to join Hollywood or something?”
“Oh, come on. How long has he been paying for this promo? I see posts about him every single day.”
“Yeah, it’s getting old. We get it, he’s done good things, but there’s no need to hype him up like this.”
“Honestly, I’m starting to get turned off. I used to think he didn’t care about fame and money, but now… Well, it sure doesn’t look like it.”
“What exactly is he trying to do here?”
Camila scrolled through all the comments, her frown deepening with every swipe.
Something about this was seriously off.
No matter how hot a topic was, buzz online never lasted this long—not with this kind of intensity. And it had been over two weeks now.
Even weirder: her mentor had always kept a low profile.
This constant trending? It just felt wrong.
She was sure of one thing—there was no way her mentor was behind this.
A cold unease crept into Camila’s chest. It felt like someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
A little panicked, she called up Dennis Williams. “Mr. Williams, do you know what’s going on with all this?”
She wasn’t even sure when it happened, but Camila had come to trust Dennis unconditionally. No matter what happened, he always had a way of making things right. He was like her anchor in a storm.
Dennis’s calm voice came through the phone. “Aaron’s already looking into it. We’re pretty sure someone’s paying to keep Dr. Morris trending, but we don’t know their angle yet.”
“I’ve already told people to start taking down those posts. Don’t worry too much, Camila.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
Camila knew this kind of thing wasn’t easy to trace. They didn’t even know who was behind it, let alone why.
She’d barely hung up when her phone rang again—Walter Wilson this time.
She answered, and he jumped right in, “I’ve already told Aiden to start cleaning up the trending posts. At first, I thought it was just leftover buzz from before, so I didn’t pay much attention. Been swamped lately, honestly. But when I saw it was still up today, I knew something was off.”
He’d supposedly driven out his protégé and pushed another student to her death? It was absurd.
But the anger in his eyes was unmistakable—these were the kind of accusations that cut straight to his core.
Even Patrick looked furious.
He sprang into action, stepping between Dr. Morris and the reporters, his voice sharp and angry. “Where are you getting this garbage? None of this is true! If you don’t leave right now, we’re calling the police.”
But the reporters just doubled down. If anything, Patrick’s anger only convinced them they were on to something.
They shoved closer, pressing even harder. “Are you dodging our questions because we’ve got the truth?”
“Is this really what happened?”
“You hide behind your reputation, but what about the things you’ve done in secret? Your student’s been gone for years—don’t you feel any guilt?”
“Eric Morris, all this publicity lately—your supposed humility is just an act, right? You’re only in it for the money and the fame!”
“And those charity funds—do they really go to people in need?”
“Why don’t you answer us honestly?”
Dr. Morris’s face was stone-cold as the accusations kept coming, his hands clenched in anger.
He’d spent his whole life helping others, doing charity work, giving back to his community. But never, not once, had he been slandered like this.
