Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 494

His eyes were dark and intense, a flicker of something dangerous lurking beneath the surface.

It hit him, suddenly, how much more torturous it felt to have her tending to his wounds like this.

Camila Davis was standing behind him, so she couldn’t see his expression. She just noticed how tense he was and figured it must be hurting pretty bad, so she gently blew on the spot she’d just treated.

After a while, she finally finished applying the ointment and carefully wrapped his arm with fresh gauze.

“All done. Try to keep it dry when you get home, so it doesn’t get infected. If you feel anything weird, or if it gets worse, just let me know, okay?”

“Yeah,” Dennis Williams replied, buttoning his shirt slowly and with deliberate care.

By the time he turned around, his face was perfectly composed, as though nothing had happened. Still, for some reason, Camila couldn’t shake the feeling that his gaze seemed even deeper and more unreadable than before.

She didn’t linger outside for long—her mind was still on her mentor, so she headed straight back inside.

Dennis drove her back to the hospital, then left without much fuss.

The next morning, Mr. Morris woke up to find nurses and doctors bustling in to check his condition. After a thorough exam, they confirmed that his head injury wasn’t anything serious.

Stretching a little, Mr. Morris sighed, “Guess I’m getting old. I feel all stiff and achy after just one night in a hospital bed.”

One of the doctors chuckled, reassuring him, “That’s pretty normal, sir. You’re not as young as you used to be, and even though the accident wasn’t too bad, you should still take it easy for a while.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Mr. Morris replied, ever the stubborn patient.

He turned to the doctor and said, “Since you’ve checked me out and I’m fine, could you tell my student to get my discharge papers ready? I can’t stand another minute in this place.”

Camila laughed at her mentor’s grumbling. “I just wanted to make sure you were really okay! But if you’re all clear, I won’t make you stay any longer.”

A little later, after sorting out the paperwork, Camila helped her mentor out of the hospital.

Since their old place had been exposed to the press, Camila asked Patrick to find her mentor a quieter, more private place to recover.

Patrick handled it quickly, but what surprised Camila was the new location—a villa in Misty Vale, a neighborhood known for its exclusive residents. Usually, only high-profile folks lived there.

Still, Camila quickly accepted it. With the security and privacy, those nosy reporters wouldn’t dare cause trouble, and the peaceful surroundings were perfect for her mentor’s recovery.
