Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 626

Midnight.

The Allen family was anxiously awaiting news that Jonathan Allen had boarded his flight, but instead, they got a call that would shatter their world: Jonathan had been arrested by the police.

It was as if the sky had caved in.

Mrs. Allen staggered, her legs giving way as she collapsed onto the couch. Ronald Allen and his sons stood frozen, their faces grim.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

The butler hurried in, looking pale. “Mr. Allen, sir, the police are at the door. They want everyone at the station immediately to cooperate with an investigation. It’s about Jonathan Allen coercing a minor. They suspect the family of helping him cover it up…”

Meanwhile, across town, Dennis Williams was getting an update from Aaron.

“Jonathan Allen’s skeletons—every last one—I’ve handed the evidence to the police,” Aaron reported. “He’s in custody, and the Allens have been subpoenaed. Zachary Allen’s handling it.”

Dennis nodded, cool as ever. “Good. Tell the lawyers not to let Brown help Jonathan Allen weasel out of this.”

“Understood.”

Aaron nodded and left. Dennis gave a few more instructions, then finally went to bed.

He slept like a rock.

But at dawn, a shrill ringtone shattered the quiet.

Dennis reached for his phone and glanced at the caller ID: it was his grandfather.

He didn’t even look surprised. After last night’s disaster at the gala, it was only a matter of time before the news reached him.

He answered, bracing himself.

His grandfather’s voice was icy and commanding. “Where are you? Get home. Now.”

Dennis didn’t need to guess why his grandfather wanted him back. He agreed right away. “On my way.”

The elder Mr. Williams hung up without another word. Clearly, he was furious.

Still, Dennis took his time. He set his phone aside, got up, washed up, and headed downstairs to join Lillian and Camila Davis for breakfast.

Little Lillian was already at the table, hair tousled and eyes droopy with sleep, nodding off over her bowl of cereal. When she heard footsteps on the stairs, she perked up, yawning as she turned around.

When she saw Dennis, all the sleepiness vanished from her face. She sprang out of her chair and barreled toward him.

“Daddy!”

She wrapped her arms around his leg, beaming. “When did you get back?”

Shortly after Dennis left, Camila’s phone rang. It was Sarah Brown.

Camila had meant to ask Sarah where they’d gone for drinks last night, but Sarah’s excited voice cut her off. “Camila! Have you heard? There’s been a huge scandal in town!”

Camila frowned. “What happened?”

Sarah didn’t waste a second. “The Allens’ stock tanked this morning. Word is, Jonathan Allen tried to flee the country last night, but got arrested at the airport. Turns out he’s been messing around with a ton of women, and even forced himself on two underage girls. Their families have pressed charges, and the whole story’s out now.”

She lowered her voice conspiratorially. “People are saying the Allen family paid a fortune to bury it, but somehow, in one night, everything blew up.”

Camila’s brow furrowed. “Are you serious? Jonathan Allen really did that?”

Sarah snorted. “The guy’s in jail. You think it’s fake news? And after the way he harassed you yesterday—he got what he deserved, and fast. Tell me, who else in this city could pull strings like that? It has to be your Mr. Williams. His intel is always spot-on.”

Sarah sounded almost starstruck.

Camila felt a jolt of realization. Yeah, this was definitely Dennis’s handiwork.

She hadn’t expected him to go so far for her sake.

Jonathan Allen was worse than she’d thought—a repeat offender, and even more disgusting and arrogant than the rumors said. Now he’d finally gotten what was coming to him.

Sarah sighed on the other end of the line. “Camila, Mr. Williams really dotes on you. You two better stay together for good—I’m holding out for your wedding reception, you know!”
