She couldn’t help herself—Cynthia Lee started obsessively following Dennis Williams and Camila Davis’s situation, even going so far as to have someone tail them.
But when she saw them together with her own eyes, Cynthia felt her cheeks burn like she’d just been slapped in front of a crowd.
Her hands trembled in anger. She could barely stand it—her man, being defiled by another woman!
Gritting her teeth, she snapped at her assistant, “You only got these two photos all morning? What else did they do?”
But after she fired off the message, her assistant didn’t reply.
Cynthia’s patience had never been her strong suit. She called, only to discover—the number was suddenly out of service.
She just stared at her phone, confused and a little unsettled. What the hell was going on?
She was about to try again when her father, Nicholas Lee, called on the private line.
Cynthia shoved her worries aside for now and answered. “What’s up, Dad?”
Nicholas’s tone was serious. “You know that big government contract The Lee Group just landed? They’re giving it to someone else.”
“Wait, what?” Cynthia couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Their company had fought tooth and nail for that contract—practically every business in town wanted in. The Lee Group had come out on top, and lately, it felt like they’d been on a lucky streak, knocking out one tough project after another and making a real splash in the city.
And this contract? It was supposed to be the big score—the icing on the cake.
It was all but signed, sealed, and delivered. Why the sudden change of heart?
Nicholas sounded frustrated. “Just found out the only reason we got the contract in the first place was Dennis Williams. It was his way of compensating The Lee Family.”
Cynthia’s eyes flickered. She understood perfectly what her dad meant.
The contract was compensation for breaking off the engagement.
But now, Dennis Williams had decided to take it back.
“So you’re saying all this good luck we’ve had lately—that was all him?”
Nicholas was floored. So Cynthia really had been meddling behind his back.
No wonder they lost the contract—this was Dennis Williams sending a warning.
Nicholas wasn’t sure what to think.
Lillian had tried for ages to win Dennis over, with no luck. He clearly wasn’t interested. Was Cynthia’s stubbornness a blessing or a curse?
But then he thought about Dennis Williams’s influence and how the Williams family empire had only grown since Dennis took the reins.
Maybe, just maybe, there was still room to maneuver.
Businessmen always know how to weigh the odds.
Soon enough, Nicholas was talked around by Cynthia’s argument. He even gave her some advice, saying, “Nancy, if you want something, you don’t always go straight at it. Sometimes, you have to be clever—work around things. That way, you don’t risk ruining your image or upsetting Dennis. If you want to be Mrs. Williams, the last thing you need is to get on his bad side. Everybody in Cabinda knows you don’t cross Dennis Williams. If you go head-to-head with him now, we’ll end up with nothing. Understand?”
Cynthia nodded, determination flashing in her eyes. She was not about to give up—no matter what.
