Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 729

When it came to this sort of thing, Jarvis Peters could be hopelessly oblivious.

Camila Davis flushed all the way to the tips of her ears from his question, but she didn’t dare say a word.

Dennis Williams’ low chuckle rumbled beside her, and the sound only made her cheeks burn hotter.

Quickly, she changed the subject. “It’s nothing, I just bumped into something by accident. Weren’t you going to treat us to lunch? I’m starving—let’s head inside, shall we?”

She didn’t give them a chance to reply, striding ahead to lead the way.

Jarvis watched her retreating figure with suspicion, scratching his head. “Oh, right, okay,” he mumbled twice, but didn’t press the matter and hurried to catch up. He was the one who’d offered to treat, after all—he had to put in a little effort!

He’d already called ahead to reserve a table, so as soon as they arrived, the staff led them straight to their private dining room.

The restaurant’s menu was full of unique dishes, and the flavors were impressive. Camila found herself actually enjoying the meal.

It didn’t take her long to understand why people called Jarvis Peters a “medicine nerd.”

Throughout lunch, he barely stopped talking—every topic somehow circled back to medical techniques, case studies, or the latest research. His enthusiasm was infectious, and more than once, Camila found herself drawn into his ramblings, discussing points and trading opinions.

By the time the meal ended, Camila could clearly feel how passionate Jarvis was about getting into medical school.

He even asked her directly, “So, Camila, do you have any free time coming up?”

He wanted to observe the acupuncture techniques at the medical school, to start reading through the old medical texts.

Camila smiled. “Probably not anytime soon. There’s still a lot going on at the research institute—I won’t be able to get away for a while.”

“Oh, alright,” Jarvis replied, a little disappointed but still cheerful. “Just let me know when you’re free, and I’ll be there.”

“Deal!”

Camila and Dennis had already spent half the day here, and with lunch finished, they were ready to head out.

Just as they were leaving, Jarvis took a call. Whatever he heard made his face flicker with surprise.

A moment later, he looked over at Dennis. “Mr. Williams… The Roberts family wants to see you. They say they owe you an apology. Do you want to meet them?”

Dennis didn’t even blink. His voice was cold as ice. “No need. I’m not interested.”

Jarvis didn’t try to convince him, but he was clearly unsettled.

It was because of that phone call. The person on the other end said Lavinia Roberts had broken her arm.

As she mulled it over, she rummaged through her bag and soon pulled out a small bottle of powder, handing it to Aaron. “Next time, don’t go to all that trouble. No need to drive someone out to the middle of nowhere and waste gas. If you run into this kind of person again, just sprinkle some of this on them. It’ll make their muscles go weak—they’ll feel like their arm is useless, but it’s only temporary.”

Someone like Lavinia was long overdue for a lesson—one that struck fear into her heart and made sure she’d never forget it.

Camila was no saint. The only reason Lavinia dared to target her was because she thought her family background would shield her from consequences.

Aaron’s heavy-handed approach would only make her angrier and more vengeful. If they met again, Camila was certain Lavinia wouldn’t hesitate to try something worse.

Aaron’s eyes lit up with understanding. “You can do that? I’ll keep that in mind!”

He tucked the powder away. “I’ll try it next time!”

“Good,” Camila replied. “I’ll make you something even better for the future.”

“Awesome!”

The admiration in Aaron’s eyes was plain as day when he looked at her.

Dennis watched the two of them plotting ways to teach someone a lesson, and for some reason, he found this side of Camila unexpectedly endearing.
