Cynthia Lee broke into a delighted laugh.
Whether the rumors were true or not didn’t matter—Camila Davis had been suspended, and that was enough to prove she wasn’t innocent.
Someone so lacking in professional ethics, who made mistakes yet refused to admit them—how could a woman like that possibly deserve to stand by Dennis Williams’ side?
A glimmer of sly satisfaction flashed in Cynthia’s eyes.
She immediately turned to Natalie Morris. “Do me a favor and spread the news. Make sure it reaches the elder Mr. Williams if you can…”
Natalie caught on right away. “No problem. Leave it to me!”
Then she let out a cold chuckle. “That woman was never worth mentioning in the first place. And she actually thought she could compete with you for Dennis? She’s in way over her head!”
After cursing Camila Davis, Natalie didn’t forget to butter Cynthia up. “Sis, if those two end up splitting, and you get your chance with Mr. Williams, you better not forget who had your back!”
Cynthia grinned, her eyes alight with anticipation. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get your due.”
The moment she set her phone down, the gloom that had hung over Cynthia for days finally lifted. She felt more refreshed than ever.
This was what you called a gift falling right into your lap.
Thanks to Lavinia Roberts’ actions, Cynthia didn’t need to get her own hands dirty; she could sit back and pull the strings from the shadows.
Clearly, Lavinia hated Camila Davis as much as she did.
A calculating smile curled at Cynthia’s lips. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Lavinia had already gone to such lengths—she was worth winning over as an ally. Who knew, maybe she could even become Cynthia’s weapon of choice.
And then there was Jordan Smith, and Sandra Taylor, that woman from Harrisburg… all of them could be useful pawns.
With so many people targeting Camila Davis, Cynthia couldn’t believe Camila and Dennis’ relationship would remain untouched.
The thought made Cynthia laugh out loud, unable to contain her joy.
Meanwhile, Camila Davis was oblivious to all of this.
She was simply thrilled that her parents were visiting Cabinda, and since she had time off, she planned to make the most of it. Early the next morning, after breakfast, she took them to visit Father Benedict.
At noon, they all shared a meal together, and in the afternoon, she led them around the city, showing them local sights.
She was completely insulated from the storm outside.
Dennis Williams, on the other hand, had already heard the swirling rumors the moment he set foot in The Smith Group.
The Roberts family was done for.
Aaron regretfully relayed the conversation to Dennis.
Dennis didn’t lose his temper. He simply glanced at Aaron, his gaze cool and sharp. “You know what to do.”
“I understand,” Aaron replied. This was exactly the sort of job he excelled at.
Elsewhere in Cabinda, Sarah Brown heard the rumors almost immediately—and, as expected, she was furious.
Did the people of Cabinda really have nothing better to do than drag her best friend’s name through the dirt every single day?
Anger quickly turned to worry. What on earth had gone wrong at the research institute?
The more Sarah thought about it, the more anxious she became. She couldn’t sit still; she rushed off to find Camila Davis.
When she arrived, she bumped right into Walter Wilson, who had come for the very same reason.
Neither of them knew that Melissa George and her husband were already inside.
So when Sarah and Walter stepped through the door and saw the couple sitting there, both of them froze, completely taken aback—and the questions they’d meant to ask Camila vanished from their minds.
