Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 107

**Chapter 107: A Message That Shook the Net**

Auren sprinted toward Agares’s residence, clutching a lunchbox tightly in his hand. His voice echoed through the air long before he arrived, a mix of excitement and urgency propelling him forward.

As he approached the door, he was taken aback by the sight that greeted him: fifteen deputy generals from the Hunting Legion, all gathered outside in two neat rows. Seven of them squatted on either side, while one occupied the middle, creating an odd tableau of military disobedience.

“What in the world are you all doing here, squatting outside Commander Vaelor’s door? Aren’t you worried about facing his wrath?” Auren called out, confusion etched across his face as he jogged closer.

Their behavior was baffling. Had they all overdosed on some sort of liquid supplements or nutrient packs? Instead of engaging in training or fulfilling their duties, they were lounging about like a pack of oversized dogs, seemingly oblivious to the seriousness of their actions. What could possibly possess them to risk punishment in such a manner?

Leiya, who was squatting in the center, suddenly noticed the lunchbox in Auren’s grasp. He sprang to his feet, brushing off the dust from his rear end and rubbing his hands together with a grin that was both charming and eager. “Auren! You know I swing by your place a few times each month. What’s in that box? Come on, share a little with me!”

Auren was left momentarily speechless. What could be so enticing about the contents of his lunchbox that it would drive these deputy generals to abandon their posts?

“This is a special delivery from Mrs. Vaelor for Commander Vaelor. Are you sure you want to risk it?” Auren teased, lifting the lunchbox just out of reach of Leiya’s outstretched hand.

The other deputy generals, who had been waiting for nearly three hours, all turned their gazes toward the lunchbox in unison, their faces souring as they spoke in a chorus, “Mrs. Vaelor plays favorites.”

They murmured amongst themselves, recalling how she had sent something to Commander Vaelor at noon, leaving them with nothing. And now, here she was again, sending another treat?

“Who’s playing favorites?” came a deep voice from behind them.

Agares stood in the doorway, tall and imposing like a sentinel, his presence radiating authority. The cold air around him seemed to amplify the tension in the air.

In an instant, the fifteen deputy generals snapped to attention, saluting with a precision that belied their earlier nonchalance. “Good day, Commander Vaelor,” they intoned in unison, their earlier bravado evaporating like mist under the morning sun.

Agares’s expression remained inscrutable, his dark eyes sweeping over the group with a calculated gaze. He raised his wrist, activating his optical computer, his voice low and steady as he addressed them. “General Raghul, General Shefferheim, General Nemoria. You fifteen have abandoned your posts for three hours, five minutes, and thirty seconds.”

A heavy silence fell over the group as they processed his words.

“Under Article 425 of the Troya Empire Penal Code, commanding officers and duty personnel who abandon their posts or neglect their duties, causing serious consequences, face sentences of up to three years of imprisonment, losing their freedom in the process.”

A chill ran through Auren.

What was happening?

Was Commander Vaelor truly about to deliver a devastating punishment?

Auren’s heart raced as he grappled with the implications of the Commander’s words.

This wasn’t a mere warning; this was a potential massacre of their military careers!

“Commander Vaelor—”

He was cut off before he could finish.

“Given that this is your first group offense,” Agares continued, his tone icy and unyielding, “your punishment is hereby reduced. Each of you will handwrite the entire Troya Empire Penal Code and submit it to me within ten days. Following that, you will return to your respective battalions and, conserving water, wash clothes for no fewer than one thousand people—by hand.”

He emphasized “by hand” with a weight that made the words hang heavily in the air.

A stunned silence enveloped the group.
