“Believe me, I’m not fabricating anything,” Blake asserted confidently, his gaze steady on Sylvara. “You truly possess a unique charm. There’s no one quite like you.”
Most individuals would crumble under such bold flirtation, their cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Yet, for Sylvara, surrender was a word that held no meaning. When it came to audacity and resilience, she was a rare breed. She took a step closer, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Mr. Kenobia, might I add that you are quite the handsome gentleman yourself. In fact, you outshine every single guy at the academy. So, it appears we have a mutual attraction. You like me, and I like you.”
“That sounds delightful,” Blake replied, a playful smile dancing on his lips. “However, I must remind you—under the marriage laws of the Troyan Empire, it’s strictly one husband, one wife. Any form of cohabitation or illicit relationship, be it emotional or physical, can lead to serious consequences. If the evidence is solid, it constitutes bigamy.”
“According to Article 205 of the Troya Empire Penal Code, the court will automatically grant a divorce, confiscate the assets of the unfaithful party, mandate compensation for mental anguish, and impose a prison sentence of no less than three years. Are you truly willing to challenge the law?”
Sylvara felt a chill run down her spine.
Blake was a formidable opponent.
He was fully aware of her marriage to Agares.
So, when she playfully flirted, he countered with a lecture on the legal ramifications of marriage.
Impressive.
Too impressive.
“I’m a law-abiding citizen,” Sylvara declared, feigning innocence with a playful twinkle in her eye. “Why would I ever break the law? I’m not married. We’re both single, after all.”
A knowing glimmer flickered in Blake’s striking purple eyes. “Oh, then please disregard my caution. I’m merely studying for the bar exam to pass the time. I enjoy memorizing criminal law and sharing it with others, ensuring that those who are unaware of the law don’t inadvertently break it.”
“I see,” Sylvara replied, feigning enlightenment. The delicate strand of mental energy she had previously sent into him returned, curling around her finger like a playful ribbon.
Meanwhile, Veyric was on his 29th lap. With just one lap remaining, he let out a triumphant howl, “Slvie, give me a cheer! I’m about to claim first place!”
Sylvara pointed enthusiastically at him. “I’m going to cheer for him!”
Blake nodded, placing his hands behind his back as he stepped away from their conversation, leaving Sylvara to her antics.
With unabashed zeal, she shouted at Veyric as he sprinted past, “Go, go! Veyric, you’re the most determined guy I know!”
Veyric threw his head back in laughter, his spirits soaring, and he pushed himself to run even faster.
Blake had allotted them eight and a half minutes for this challenge.
Veyric completed all 30 laps in a staggering five minutes. He dashed back to Sylvara, a smug grin plastered across his face. “Sylvie, I always thought that knocking out a three-headed dog with a single punch was the pinnacle of my achievements. Little did I know I’d reach another peak by defeating the chief of the Mecha Department!”
Sylvara had no intention of revealing that when she had nudged him into running, she had infused him with mental energy, transforming him into a tireless machine.
