Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 154

Chapter 154 Dog of a Man

She definitely felt personally attacked.

Everyone else was silent as well.

Yeah, they felt offended too.

“That’s more like it.” Sylvara snorted, yanked Veyric up by the scruff. “Quit howling. His Highness agreed to take us along to fight mutant beasts.”

Veyric’s eyes went as round as saucers, like someone had dropped a brick on his skull. “For real?”

Sylvara coaxed him like a kid. “Of course, it’s real. When have I ever lied to you? Go pack up- we’re heading out soon.”

Being able to go with his idol was the kind of thing he wouldn’t even dare dream about.

Veyric was instantly wired, as if he’d been injected with rocket fuel. “Got it! Just wait for me!”

He shot off like a gust of wind, bolting back to the lakeside, butt stuck in the air, grinning as he yelled at the others and huffed and puffed while scrubbing racks and basins.

Sylvara’s eyes turned, thoughts spinning.

If Blake had thrown out a move, it’d be a shame not to pick it up.

If she took the hit alone, she’d be exposed too easily.

If she dragged her Agares into it, he’d make the perfect cover.

Thinking this, Sylvara lifted her head to look over at Agares.

To her surprise, Agares was standing ramrod straight like a pine tree, his brows drawn tight as if he were facing down an enemy, staring right at her.

Sylvara glanced down at herself. She was actually pretty clean.

Her face was smeared with field-camouflage paint-dirty or not, it all looked the same.

Then, what is Your Highness staring at me for?

Under His Highness’s frowning, laser-focused gaze, Sylvara walked over. She hadn’t even opened her mouth yet when Agares spoke first, voice cold as ice. “Ms. Feywin, the marriages of frontline combatants are protected under imperial law.”

Sylvara was baffled. “Uh… okay, and?”

Was it that the Education Bureau had failed to roll out the Marriage Act awareness campaign, or that the Fifth Military Academy was paying lip service and not actually reminding cadets to keep their distance from married personnel?

Agares rephrased it in the simplest, most clipped way possible. “All primary Hunting Legion personnel-and attached auxiliary-legion personnel-are frontline combatants.”

Sylvara still didn’t get his point. “They serve the Empire, hold the line on Kolar planet-they’re all heroes. I respect heroes. I think you’re all amazing. Seriously.”

Agares’ brows scrunched up completely. “Yes. They are heroes-guarding the Troya Empire, spilling blood, and laying down their lives for its citizens.

“Therefore, I expect you, Ms. Feywin, as a frontline combatant’s family member, to conduct yourself accordingly. Do you understand what I mean?”

Sylvara blinked, stunned. “What exactly are you implying?”

Agares nodded solemnly. “Exactly that, Ms. Feywin.”

So, in other words, he hadn’t been staring at her just now.

It was because Veyric had been hugging her leg and wailing that he’d decided something was

wrong.

He thought Veyric was trying to steal his wife.

He thought she had zero awareness as a frontline soldier’s spouse-acting all flirtatious and ambiguous with other guys?

Unbelievable man.

He’s begging for a beating.

Did he really think she was soft and sweet and had no temper?

Sylvara’s expression cooled as she dragged her face down. “Whatever it is, I’ll own it–but why are you lecturing me? Maybe try thinking about yourself first. Every single time, it’s your wife messaging you. Have you ever once reached out to her first?

“No. All you ever think about is divorce, divorce, divorce. You never once think about actually living with her. And you have the nerve to talk to me? Get lost.”

She finished and shoved him.

The Empire Light, the people’s idol, stood like a pine, straight as a mountain.

Her push didn’t even move him an inch. He stayed frozen on the spot.

Humiliation and anger flared up together. “A good dog knows not to block the doorway-

Agares kept his sharply contoured face taut, dark eyes lowered on the girl who only came up to his chin, her face streaked with field camo, small and delicate, body looking a bit frail, but with those beautiful, pure black eyes.

He opened his mouth and very seriously corrected her. “I am human. Under the definition of multi-form carbon-based life, yes, humans and dogs are both carbon-based, but we are different species. I am not of the beastfolk, and I do not transform into a dog.

“Furthermore, there is a wide stretch of open ground on either side of me.”

What he meant was: She was ignoring all that space beside him …
