Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 179

Chapter 179 The Bear Paw

Unified

The bear paw left streaks of blood across every man’s face before hitting the ground with a heavy crack that echoed through the clearing.

Sylvara pointed straight at Agares, her voice sharp. “That wasn’t me. It was Mr. Vaelor. His mental energy was wrapped around the paw. I couldn’t stop it.”

The deputy commanders stood stiff as boards, too afraid to even wipe their faces. Then, all at once, they shouted, “Ms. Feywin, that was you! We saw you pull the paw with your vines and smack us on purpose!”

What a perfect misunderstanding. Agares had used the chance to get his quiet revenge.

So this was the Troya Empire’s so-called righteous shield?

Righteous? Hardly. Most people got angry by yelling or throwing punches. Their prince preferred to stay calm, strike subtly, and leave his victims without a shred of defense.

Sylvara dropped the act of explaining and folded her arms. “Yeah, I hit you with it. I was trying to tell you we’re eating bear paw tonight. So stop whining and start cleaning off the fur. I’ll roast it later.”

“This thing’s actually edible?” Leiya wiped blood from his face, his eyes lighting up like a kid spotting candy. He rubbed his palms together, staring at the giant paw on the ground.

Sylvara flicked her vines, hurling the paw right into his arms. “Yeah, it’s edible. But you’ll need to deal with the fur and the thick hide first.”

“I’m great at that,” Zolensky said, giving Leiya’s shoulder a solid pat. “Leave it to me. I’ll make sure it’s spotless.”

“Alright-”

“Feywin, watch out!” Veyric yelled suddenly. He was still sprawled on the ground, the only one untouched earlier. “Behind you!”

Sylvara spun fast. Two massive hind paws came flying straight for her.

She dodged sideways, and the paws slammed into the fallen tree behind her. The claws bit deep into the trunk, splintering it with a deafening crack.

The deputy generals scattered in all directions, terrified to stand anywhere near each other.

The bear, now stripped of all four claws, could no longer hold itself up. Its huge body crashed to the ground with a violent thud that shook the earth.

Agares fell with it, landing square on its back. He reversed his grip on the saber and plunged the blade into its chest.

A harsh, guttural roar ripped through the air.

The massive creature’s limbs flailed wildly, its mountain-sized body convulsing in its death throes.

Sylvara ran toward him, shouting, “Your Highness, cut open its stomach-by the liver! I need to find

something!”

Agares’s face was streaked with blood. His eyes, cold and sharp as obsidian, met hers in silence.

Finished

Her heart stuttered. For a second, she saw him as he’d looked in that photo her aunt once showed her.

He had just returned from battle in a green combat uniform. His eyes had been as deep as the night, and hist whole presence had radiated danger. He’d looked like a blade soaked in blood-beautiful, deadly, and commanding.

“What are you looking for?” Agares asked in a low, rough voice. His eyes narrowed as he gripped the saber, ripped it free, and flicked his wrist. “Cut it yourself.”

The blood-drenched blade cut through the air, flying straight toward Sylvara’s forehead.

Sylvara hurled the Smokewillow forward, the vines snapping through the air like living whips.

But the oncoming saber sliced clean through them.

The blade pulsed with savage mental energy-raw, ruthless, and steeped in killing intent.

Was her bargain-bin husband actually trying to kill her?

Was he that furious? Furious enough to strike her down?

She drew the cut vines back, her posture straightening, her chin lifting. A cold smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “Your Highness,” she said in a voice sharp as glass, “why are you trying to kill me?”

Agares stood on the carcass of the fallen bear, his gaze locked on her. When she didn’t move, his mental energy surged outward in a suffocating wave. The saber streaked toward her, surrounded by that crushing

force.

A metallic crash split the air.

The blade hit the ground with a ringing clatter.

Agares closed the distance in a blur, his arm wrapping around her neck as he pulled her against him. His face buried against her throat. He inhaled deeply, his voice low, heavy with something wild. “What are you? You smell intoxicating.”

Sylvara’s eyes flashed with a glacial gleam. She twisted in his grasp, pressing her face against his chest, her tone soft but laced with mockery. “And what are you? Because you don’t smell that good.”

“What the hell is this?” Leiya’s voice cracked as he clutched the bear paw tighter. His eyes darted between them in panic. “Guys, is that really Mr. Vaelor?”

Zolensky looked no better. “Mr. Vaelor made us write out the Penal Code and memorize the Marriage Act. Is he actually breaking both right now?”

Bane’s legs shook, his face pale as he stared. “Mr. Vaelor? Breaking the law? What happened to the Empire’s noble paragon of justice?”
