Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 2

**Chapter 2: Marry in Her Place**

Seraphine clenched her jaw, feeling a surge of frustration course through her veins. That good-for-nothing! The weight of her brother and sister-in-law’s decisions pressed heavily upon her. They had spent every last credit on Sylvara, their precious daughter, and now they had vanished to some distant planet in search of wealth, leaving Seraphine to shoulder the burden alone.

They had abandoned her here, trusting her to care for Sylvara, yet she hadn’t received a single credit from them in three long years. It was infuriating! Seraphine had been footing the bill for all of Sylvara’s medical expenses and ensuring she had access to the healthiest food available.

And what did she get in return? This insufferable girl, who had somehow managed to escape the jaws of a beast, now lounged around, using her amnesia as an excuse to live like a princess in the Mordrels’ home.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Seraphine approached Sylvara, her expression softening as she forced a friendly demeanor. “Sylvara, I need to discuss something important with you.”

Sylvara blinked slowly, her eyes barely opening. Did she suspect that I’m not really Sylvara? Is she about to cut me off? Panic fluttered in her chest.

Pushing herself up from the lounge chair, Sylvara straightened her back, placing her hands neatly on her lap, trying to project an air of obedience. “What is it, Aunt Seraphine? I’m all ears.”

Seraphine’s demeanor shifted, her seriousness palpable. “Your parents entrusted you to my care, which means you are like my own child now. The Emperor has decreed that the eldest daughter of the house must marry His Highness Agares.”

Sylvara’s eyes widened as she feigned ignorance. “Then why not have Miralys marry him? Isn’t she the eldest?”

Seraphine felt a wave of disbelief wash over her, nearly choking on her indignation. This useless girl! Amnesia had turned her sharp-tongued and utterly insufferable. “No, Sylvara. You are part of my family now, and as the eldest daughter, the one who is getting married is you.”

A gasp escaped Sylvara’s lips. My easy life is over after just three months? I have to get married? The thought sent a chill down her spine.

“It’s you. Look, this is the man you are destined to marry.” Seraphine placed her cup down with a firm clink, tapping on her wrist optical computer with determination, revealing a photo of Agares.

Sylvara squinted at the image, her pupils constricting in shock. The man in the picture appeared as if he had just emerged from a fierce battle, clad in a dark green combat uniform. Smoke curled around him, and blood streaked across his face, giving him an intimidating presence. His dark eyes were cold and penetrating, like a razor-sharp blade, striking fear into her heart.

“Pretty good-looking,” she murmured, though the chill in his gaze was unsettling. His eyes were hauntingly beautiful yet unfathomable, a contradiction that stirred something deep within her.

Seraphine’s face brightened with enthusiasm. “If you find him appealing, I can submit the marriage application right away!”
