Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 36

**The Third Signature by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 36: Marriage Laws and Misfires**

Agares gripped the rainbow pepper plant tightly, the roughness in his voice resonating like a distant thunderstorm, smoky and low. “Thank you,” he murmured, his gaze flickering to Sylvara.

Sylvara, with a dismissive wave of her hand, brushed off his gratitude. “No need for that. Just go already,” she urged, her tone a mix of impatience and camaraderie.

Instead of tucking the rainbow pepper away in his spatial button, Agares chose to carry it openly, cradling the vibrant plant in his arms as he navigated through the bustling academy grounds. The colors of the fruit glowed brightly against the muted backdrop of the academy, drawing glances from students and faculty alike.

In the distance, Aslan emerged from the greenhouse, his eyes locking onto Agares with an intensity that suggested he had just seen a ghost. He froze, his expression a mixture of surprise and disbelief as he took in the sight of the plant bursting with its kaleidoscopic fruits.

Agares made his way across the campus, the pepper plant still firmly in his grasp, until he reached the front gate. Without hesitation, he boarded his aircraft, the plant still nestled in his arms, a curious accessory to his otherwise serious demeanor.

As the ship ascended into the sky, Carlos, seated beside him, couldn’t tear his gaze away from the peculiar fruit. After a moment of contemplation, he tentatively reached out, his fingers brushing against one of the peppers. With a newfound determination, he declared, “Mr. Vaelor, about the woman who gifted you this tree—Ms. Feywin. Sure, she might not have much mental energy left, and her physical stats are lacking, but she gave us this without asking for anything in return. That must mean something, right? So… what do you think about me pursuing her?”

Agares subtly shifted the plant in his arms, maneuvering it just enough to obstruct Carlos’s hand from reaching the fruit again. He raised his gaze, his eyes hard and piercing, locking onto Carlos with an intensity that could cut through steel. “What did you just say?”

Carlos, completely misinterpreting the gravity of the moment, misread the tension in the air. He perked up, thinking that perhaps Agares was finally ready to assist him in breaking free from his lifelong bachelorhood. “Honestly, Mr. Vaelor, I think Ms. Feywin is wonderful. Sure, she lacks mental energy and her physical stats are low, but she’s cute, petite, and has such a soft way of speaking. She definitely seems like the kind of woman who can handle solitude. That’s exactly what a frontline soldier like me needs, right? Someone steady and reliable. I mean, I’m still single and I’ve saved up a bit. What if I went after her?”

Agares’s fingers grazed one of the pepper branches, his tone flat but now laced with an icy chill. “Do you have her optical computer number?”

Carlos shook his head, oblivious to the impending storm brewing in Agares’s demeanor. “Not yet, but I can get it easily. Auren used to be the head of the Healing Department at the Fifth Military Academy. He knows a lot of professors. I’ll ask him for help to find her contact info, and then I’ll start chatting her up on Starnet. You know, get things rolling. When we’re on leave, I’ll visit her. If there’s a connection, we can register our marriage.”

Agares’s voice dropped another notch, flat and precise, cutting through the air like a blade. “Colonel Kael.”

Carlos jumped as if he had been jolted by an electric shock, springing up instinctively and colliding his head against the ceiling of the aircraft. Wincing in pain, he swallowed his complaint. “Y-yes, Mr. Vaelor!”

Agares tilted his head slightly, his dark eyes boring into Carlos’s. “Colonel Kael, what does Article 559 of the Troya Empire Penal Code state?” he asked, his voice steady.

Carlos blinked, utterly lost in confusion. Silence filled the cabin, thick and suffocating.

Penal Code Article 559?

Who on earth memorizes that?

It’s not like he was training to be a criminal judge.

From the cockpit, Auren’s voice broke the tension. “Troya Empire Penal Code, Article 559—anyone who knowingly cohabits with the legal partner of a frontline combatant shall, upon discovery, be stripped of all civil liberties and exiled permanently to a waste planet. No possibility of release.”
