Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 77

**Chapter 77: Rich Boys Play Protector**

Sylvara beckoned to Veyric with a playful curl of her finger. “Hey, come here! I’ve got something to show you.”

He leaned down, curiosity etched on his face.

As she powered up her optical computer, the screen flickered to life, revealing her account details. “Sure, I might hail from a planet that’s considered a dump, but guess what? I’m legally married. So, no, I don’t have rich parents or a glamorous background. But I do have money. My husband is loaded.”

A smirk crossed her lips as she thought about the irony of her situation. She couldn’t afford to unveil her true identity, so she opted to throw her husband’s wealth under the bus instead, letting Veyric believe her fabricated tale.

Veyric’s eyes widened as he stared at the glowing screen, disbelief washing over him. Then, his reaction was explosive. “Sylvara—are you kidding me? You… you… filthy rich liar! I’ve been here fretting over your future, battling people on your behalf, and you—”

“Enough with the ‘you, you, you!’ It’s getting old!” Sylvara snapped, slamming shut her optical computer with a decisive click. “Do you finally believe me? I couldn’t care less about being Chief.”

Veyric blinked, still processing the numbers on the screen. “Yeah, I believe you now. Honestly, if I had that much cash, I wouldn’t give a damn about being Chief either. Forget the fighting. Let’s go splurge on that fruit you treated me to last time, and while we’re at it, let’s stock up on lemons. You’re rich, so you’re paying!”

A radiant smile spread across Sylvara’s face. “Deal! But first, I need to hand over this badge to that psycho.”

“I’m coming with you,” Veyric declared, his footsteps light as he happily trotted beside her, both of them heading towards Mavena.

As they approached, Mavena narrowed her eyes, suspicion radiating from her posture. “What now, Sylvara? First, you sneak your way into the Chief title through dubious means, then you get someone else to fight for you. And now, when that backfires, you come at me together?”

Sylvara maintained her bright smile, but a coldness flickered in her gaze. “Relax. I’m not here to attack you. I’m conceding. Here’s the Chief badge. Just take it.”

She extended the badge toward Mavena, the very symbol of power she had once coveted, now just inches away from her fingers.

Yet, Mavena hesitated, her suspicion palpable. “You really expect me to believe that someone like you, who schemed her way into this position, would so easily give it up?”

Sylvara’s grip on the badge momentarily tightened before she released it, her voice steady. “Take it or leave it. Honestly, I don’t care. Veyric, let’s go.”

With that, she turned around, and without a second glance, she and Veyric started to walk away, leaving Mavena behind.

As if in slow motion, the badge that Mavena had longed for was about to tumble to the ground when she lunged forward, catching it just in time.

But as soon as it touched her palm, a searing heat shot through her, causing her to flinch as if she had been burned. Panic surged through her as she instinctively flung the badge away, the weight of it suddenly too much to bear.

Before she could even comprehend what had happened, a punch came flying at her, packed with an energy that felt like a gale-force wind. It slammed into her face, sending her crashing to the ground, right at Sylvara’s feet.

The impact was jarring, and she lay there, face down, completely still, as Sylvara stepped down from the stage.

Both Sylvara and Veyric jumped back, shock etched on their faces. They stumbled a few steps away from each other, then turned to face one another, exclaiming in unison, “Didn’t I already surrender? Who the hell just hit her? Was it you?”
