Vanessa POV
We made love after he gave me a massage. I was so tired and relaxed. He went to take a shower. I could not keep my eyes open. I lay down on the bed and fell asleep. I woke up sometime later, covered in a blanket. I remembered falling asleep without one. Alfred was sleeping on top of the blankets just like I was. He had his arm draped over me. I was warm from his body heat and the blanket. My body was completely relaxed. The baby was happy. I’m hungry. I got up and walked over to my closet. I put on a robe and tied it closed. I then went to the kitchen. I made myself a sandwich. I sat down at the table in the kitchen and ate my sandwich. I noticed a cookbook on the kitchen table. I opened it to the table of contents.
It was categorized by type: desserts, drinks, dinners, and holiday items. I thumbed through the book and looked at some very pretty-looking dishes. The one that I have always wanted to try and make was chicken cordon bleu. It looked good. I may have Mac make it. He is a chef after all. Another was a recipe for homemade spaghetti sauce. There were so many things I wanted to try to make. I will have a lot of time to practice following recipes. I was so lost looking in the cookbook when I heard footsteps behind me. I then felt Alfred’s hands on my shoulders.
Have you found anything you like?”
I have found several recipes.”
I will have Mac pick up the ingredients tomorrow.”
Thank you.”
“Let’s go back to bed.”
That sounds good.”
We went to the bedroom. Alfred must have gotten cold because the blankets were turned down. I crawled onto the bed and lay down. He then got in on his side and pulled the blankets up on us. He pulled me close, and we fell back to sleep. I woke up again when Alfred’s alarm was going off. He got up, but when I tried to get up, he put his hand on my chest.
* Little one, you need to rest.”
“Stay in bed.”
* I will bring you breakfast.”
Breakfast in bed sounded good. I lay in bed for a while. The smell of something cooking from the kitchen drifted into the room. I immediately needed to throw up. I jumped out of bed and then ran to the toilet. I committed everything that I had in my stomach. Alfred must have heard me throwing up. He was in the bathroom, immediately holding my hair back. That was sweet of him. I sat down on the floor by the toilet.
‘Do you need anything, baby?”
Can you bring me a cup of water so I can wash my mouth out?”
He left the room and then returned with a glass of water. I swished it around in my mouth and spit it back out in the toilet. I then weakly got up off the floor. He helped me back to bed. He then returned with my medication and some saltines. I was relieved the crackers were helping to settle my stomach. I started to feel better. Alfred soon returned with a tray of food. On the tray there are eggs and toast. I was glad that was all that was on the tray. Nothing greasy. I don’t think my stomach could handle it. I ate my breakfast. Alfred sat on the bed and ate his as well. After we were done, he took the trays back to the kitchen and then returned to the bedroom, where he lay down on the bed.
* Our little one is giving you fits.”
‘Yes.’
“That’s an understatement.”
That was the only thing I could think of to say. He pulled me close to him and gently stroked my arm. I felt safe, loved, and relaxed. I fell asleep again.
Chapter 104
When I woke up this time, Alfred was gone, and a note was on the nightstand.
Baby
I went for a run. I’ll be back shortly.
Love, Alfred
I got up and took a shower. I picked out a long-sleeved green dress. Wearing dresses was more comfortable than any pants. They were a little big on me. However, they were comfortable. I enjoyed wearing those more than leggings or pants. It was almost lunchtime. I could smell something cooking in the kitchen. When I walked into the kitchen, Mac was there. He was cooking something in a pot on the stove.
‘That smells delicious.”
“It’s chicken soup.
Must be homemade soup. If it were canned, it would only take a minute to cook. However, looking at the number of dishes in the sink, he was making it himself. It made my mouth water. Additionally, he was preparing a salad to accompany lunch.
* Luna, it will be ready here in a few minutes.”
“Thank you, Mac.”
I could not wait until everything was finished. I grabbed some crackers. I wanted to be able to keep my lunch down. I also looked in the fridge and found a Sprite. I had heard that it settles an upset stomach. I hoped it was true that it helped. I really needed my stomach to settle down so that I could eat. I was sitting at the bar drinking Sprite and eating crackers when Alfred came in.
“I’m hungry.”
It’s a good thing lunch will be ready soon. I was starving just as much as he was. I am eating for two. Lunch was ready. I sat down at the table, and Alfred sat down too. Mac was in the middle of serving us lunch when a massive explosion rocked the house. Debris was falling all around us. Alfred got hit in the head, and a beam from the ceiling fell on my stomach. I screamed.
“NO, MY BABY.”
There was blood everywhere. I heard Alfred growl, and then everything went black. The next thing I knew, I was running through the forest. I’m dreaming that Sasha is running next to me.
‘Hang on, Vanessa.”
Please fight, don’t die.”
We came to a tree, and it was glowing white. Then in front of me stood the moon goddess.
Vanessa, everything will be alright.”
‘How can everything be OK when there is so much?”
“Trust me,’
I was getting fed up with the moon goddess telling me everything would be OK, especially when everything was falling apart around me. There was so much
blood.
Your baby is strong; he will survive.”

Chapter 104
That was a relief. I was happy to hear that. Then she was gone. Then all the pain hit me at once. I could feel the beam being lifted off me. It was blocking the blood from going to my legs. Once they lifted the board off me, all the blood rushed back to my legs. I felt dizzy and lightheaded. I knew I was losing blood fast. Is that what the moon goddess meant by everything would be okay? I was going to die.
