Chapter 107
Alfred’s POV
The doctor examined me for any additional injuries. I was already healed from the beams falling on me. I was confused about what happened after getting hit in the head, but I knew that my baby had been born. He was struggling, just like his mother, who was in a coma. She lost a lot of blood and her body had been badly damaged; she will be here for a while. After the confusion went away, I focused. I went to the NICU to see my son. He was in the back of the nursery, where they kept the babies that were royalty and the Alpha’s children. Guards stood watch. Exceptional nurses cared for them. Everyone would love to kidnap an Alpha’s son or daughter. My son was tiny, but I knew he would be. He has alpha blood. He will survive. I got on my knees and prayed to the moon goddess.
My goddess, please protect my son.”
* Please protect my Luna.”
I got up to find Vanessa’s room and stopped at the nurses’ station.
“Where’s the Lunas’ room?”
Down the hall to the right, Alpha.
She is in bad shape.”
I knew she was in bad shape. Concerned, I entered her room and turned pale. Machines surrounded her-ventilator, heart monitor, IVs in both hands. I dropped to my knees and howled loudly, shaking the building. My precious Luna was nearly dead, cast on her legs and arm. I crawled to her and forced myself to stand. The doctor rushed in.
Alpha she is.”
Before he finished speaking, I had him by the throat up against the wall in seconds.
SHE BETTER SURVIVE OR YOU ARE DEAD.”
Just then, Stacey rushed in.
Alfred, it is not his fault.”
He saved her life; she is going to be OK.
What did Stacey know that I did not? I did not even give the doctor a moment to speak; my anger and grief blinded me. He could have been trying to tell me something. I let go of him and he fell to the floor, Stacey helped him up and over to a chair. I stood there with my arms crossed over my chest.
*Speak, man,”
He explained to me that she would survive. There were complications, and she will be in a coma for a while. It will take time. He then left the room. Stacey sat in the chair that the doctor had sat in.
*Alfred, we will be here for you both.”
I knew she meant that. I pulled the chair that was in the corner closer to the bed. I sat down and grabbed her.
My beautiful Vanessa, please come back to me.”
Moon goddess, bring her back to me.”
It had been almost twenty-four hours since the house blew up. I was not going to leave her side while she was in the hospital. I lay my head on the bed and began to sob. Then I let out an anguished howl. I know it ripped through the pack. I don’t know what time Stacey left, because I never brought my head off

the bed. I stayed in the same position for hours. It was sometime in the afternoon that Chris quietly and carefully came into the room.
Alpha, I hate to do this to you, but we need to talk about the attack.”
* Speak, Chris.”
I was really not ready to discuss it, but I knew it needed to be done. We needed to identify the perpetrator of the attack and address the situation immediately. They were going to be tortured for every day that Vanessa was in a coma. They would pay for what they had done. Chris explained that someone had built a bomb and put it in the house’s heating system. It had a timer and was set to go off that afternoon. It looked like a werewolf built it. Some parts could only be made by werewolves, designed to kill their kind. I know I had several of those made during the war with the vampires several years ago. We won that war and eventually signed a treaty with them.
They have honored the treaty for a very long time. They have not broken it. What werewolf pack was attacking us? I already knew why. Everyone wanted Vanessa. The secret was out: she was a descendant of the moon goddess. She had powers beyond any alpha. If she knew how to use them, she could bring down the most powerful werewolf of all-the king, my father. I would never allow someone to get their hands on a weapon that strong. I hate the fact that she has these powers. However, she used them to protect our baby. I knew she subconsciously used them for him. He is alpha and strong, but she ensured his survival. That effort drained her. That is why she is in her current condition.
I hate that it took that much out of her. However, she did it for our baby. She was a fantastic mother willing to sacrifice herself for her baby. I know some mothers who would never do that.
Did you take the remains of the bomb to the forensics?”
* Yes, Alpha.”
Good.
I knew that they could get fingerprints off it. Then we could try to find out who had done this. I believe that it is Robert or someone from his pack. He probably wanted her to get killed. But she is still alive, barely. However, I know she is fighting as hard as she can. Her vitals have improved since I have been here with her. I never believed that a mate’s presence could aid in their mate’s healing. I was extremely pleased that they were improving. I wanted to pull her into my arms. However, I did not, as I could disturb the machines that are allowing her body to rest. The cuts on her face had already healed. Now the internal injuries need to recover. I had no idea how bad they were. If she was hooked up to all these machines, it had to be bad. I’m not going to ask the doctor about it because I don’t want any more bad news.
After Chris finished telling me everything that he had found out, he left. I sat by her bed for a while longer. Then the nurse came in and put medicine in her IV. She told me that it was to keep her sedated. She explained to me that sometimes they fight against the machines and refuse to let them do their job. I did not understand why she was giving her the medicine. She is in a coma. That’s what the doctor said. I called the doctor. He explained it was to keep her body relaxed. I understood that. I had seen some wolves in a coma before. When they started to come out of the coma, they would try to rip out the tubes and hurt themselves again, I sat back in the chair and let the nurse do her job.
