The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 131

Chapter 131

Alfreds POV

I woke up before her. It was eight in the morning. I had not gotten very much sleep. I had tossed and turned after falling asleep. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how those wolves had gotten past my patrols. I was very upset about what had happened. I had ordered all my leaders and Mac to the safehouse. Right now, there was a lot to do, and I wouldn’t have time to cook, and Vanessa wouldn’t have time to clean either. She was going to focus on training and unleashing her white wolf powers. The white wolf was endowed with powers by the goddess. There is only a white wolf every five millennia. So they were rare. The only time another white wolf is born is when the descendants of the previous white have all died out. I have only heard of one white wolf before, Vanessa. The rumors were true, though there are pictures in the archives of white wolves.

I walked into the kitchen, and Mac handed me a cup of coffee.

Morning, Boss.

Morning.

Mac has been with me since I was young, having cooked for my parents. When I took over the Shadow Pack, he was among several I brought along, including warriors I grew up with. Chris, my childhood best friend, came too. I sat at the bar, scowling as I sipped my coffee.

What’s troubling you, boss?

I’m trying to figure out how those wolves were able to sabotage my romantic night with the Luna.

* I heard a rumor that Stacey was not at her post when her relief got there.

I slammed my cup on the bar. Mac never started trouble; if he called it a rumor, it was often true. Everyone would arrive soon. I took my coffee and moved to the living room, sitting facing the front. As the group entered, they found seats. Stacey looked nervous, confirming what Mac said was true.

* I need everyone’s reports.

One by one, they gave me their reports. The borders were secured for the most part. Last night, the northern border was left unattended for less than a minute. That would explain why Stacey thought that it would be OK to walk away from her post. Then it was Stacey’s turn. She looked down at the floor, and I could hear her very faintly say.

I’m sorry, Alpha, I had to use the bathroom.

She explained to me that she saw Frank coming and thought it would be okay to leave her post. She said that she was in the bathroom when I mindlinked her. She was just as confused as I was. My anger erupted at her explanation, and I roared at her, not just out of discipline, but out of fear for what this mistake could have cost us.

DON’T EVER TURN YOUR BACK ON YOUR POST AGAIN.

She started to bawl her eyes out. Her sobs filled the room, tears streaming down her face as guilt and shame overtook her. She was still crying when I heard the bathroom door open. It was Vanessa who had finally woken up. I knew she could feel the tension in the room; my anger lingered like a storm. She came over to me and kissed me, her touch grounding me for a moment. I told her to go to the kitchen and wait for me. The group decided to interrogate the prisoners and for Vanessa to train. As frustrated as I am at Stacey’s mistake, I realized she was the best way to train Vanessa. After everything was settled, I went to check on Vanessa. I then went to the kitchen to speak with Vanessa. She was sipping on her coffee. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her, searching for comfort. I then explained to her that I would interrogate the prisoners today. Also, Stacey was going to train her for a while today.

She then asked why Stacey was crying, and I explained the reason to her. As I spoke, I could sense Vanessa’s mood changeher face twisted in anger and her eyes narrowed. She started yelling at me, her words sharp with frustration, before storming out of the kitchen. I watched her as she sat down by Stacey, the distance between us suddenly feeling vast. I looked at Mac, searching for understanding.

What did I do wrong?

Women.

That was all that Mac said. He looked as dumbfounded as I felt, both of us sharing a silent confusion about the situation. After a few minutes, Vanessa

returned to the kitchen. She got a glass of water and another cup of coffee, her movements stiff and withdrawn. I tried to wrap my arms around her for reassurance, but she pushed me away with her butt, frustration clear in her demeanor. I was upset with her because she did not seem to understand the danger she was in; if she did, she did not acknowledge it, and that scared me. She sat on the couch, turning away from me. I grabbed my jacket and walked past het, frustration and hurt swirling inside me. I muttered under my breath that I would deal with her later, uncertainty about how to handle things clouding my thoughts. I could not treat her like anyone else or a warrior. She is the Luna and she is my wife. Hoping she would calm down, I decided to go for a run and clear my head before taking any further action.

I ran over to the track. I ran around it a couple of times. Now that my blood was flowing, and I was relaxed, I went to the alpha’s house and got changed into black clothes. I knew I was going to get bloody today. Black doesn’t show blood. The house was clean and everything was in its place. Vanessa will be moved over here today after her training. I must admit that I was going to miss it just being with her. I enjoyed it. The move 3rs had started to show up at the safe house to shut it down and to burn it to the ground. I’m going to build another cabin a couple of miles away from the original site. I wanted to be sure that nobody could find it. I was also going to see another camping place for when I had Vanessa with me. I did not want what happened to happen

again.

I knew of caves nearby that would make perfect camping sites. I could have them remodeled and fixed up. I needed them so we could have some time to ourselves. I could even have a bed put in it. I knew several caves were that big. I walked over to the jail. Chris, TJ, Leroy, and several others were there. We walked into the prison in force. I wanted the wolves that we had captured to know that they were in big trouble. Evan and Veronica were still in jail. I have yet to deal with them. I have more pressing matters to attend to right now. The penitentiary was getting full. I needed to review the arrest reports and determine which crimes were considered petty and which ones required more severe punishments.

The cells where the wolves that attacked us were housed were located at the back of the prison. They had been locked up apart and unable to communicate. 1 looked in the cell that Vanessa’s mother was in, and she was lying on the floor, dead. I told the guard to burn her body. I was glad that she was dead.
