The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Alfreds POV

I could not believe that she had her first shift when I was trying to kill a man who had hurt her. Her wolf took over to protect her mate. That was her first shift. Usually, we have a pool of ice water after the change because, after your first shift, you are burning up. If you don’t get your temperature down, you could die. Especially her, as she was in no condition to shift. Her body had no fat in which to burn. So her muscles and organs were burning up.

She was not healthy enough for that activity. I’m surprised she made it through making love and being marked. But she did. I killed Thomas and immediately went to the house. She was in the tub, and they had the water as cold as possible. But her skin was still on fire. Then, ice was poured into the tub. Her temperature was coming down. I had climbed into the tub with her. She woke up briefly and started to panic. But then she passed out. Her temperature started to come down.

The doctor said that we now needed to heat her slowly, which I would gladly do by wrapping her in blankets and holding her. It would take a while for her to warm up. It gave me another reason to hold her other than I wanted to. She would be better when she woke up later. But I will be here. This poor mate of mine needed a lot of help. I knew that when she was finally strong enough. She would be just as strong as Stacey. She is as beautiful as any goddess. It was just getting her from this point to where she would heal completely.

Her parents were going to endure all the hardship that they put her through and more. I had them placed in a cell under the jail. That is where people torture people. The room is soundproof, and nobody can hear them scream. Vanessa started to wake up. She looked around, and then she pulled my arm closer to her.

What happened.

Little one, you shifted the first time.

Your wolf was ready to help her mate.

She looked stunned. She knew that she was not healthy enough to shift. But her wolf wanted to help her mate, which is only natural. She looked better this morning than she

had any other morning. She looked like she was putting some weight on. Her cheekbones weren’t as defined as before. Her breasts seemed a little bigger as well. I have heard it

said that a woman will show weight gain or weight loss in her face and breasts.

She has always been beautiful to me. But she was gaining weight, which pleased me. She was eating, and that was all that mattered. She sat up and unwrapped herself from the blankets. She was still naked. But with only me in the room, it does not matter. She sat up on the bed, and she started to shiver. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around her. She was paler than usual. I knew she was still struggling with recovering from her first shift. If I could talk to her wolf, I would scold her. Maybe Leon could.

* Leon, can you talk to her wolf.

I can try Fred.

Please try.

Leon POV

Sasha, I need you to answer me.

Yes, mate.

Vanessa is weak. Why did you come out.

I wanted to protect you.

You almost killed Vanessa.

I know I will check with her when she is sleeping.

* Don’t repeat it until we are sure she is stronger.

Yes, alpha.

Alfreds POV

I knew it would hurt her, but her human is not strong enough. I would love for Leon and Sasha to mate and enjoy each other. But if your human side is not strong enough, it will cause permanent damage. After she got comfortable again, she acted like nothing was being said about our wolves. Maybe she is not strong enough to communicate with her

wolf when awake. It was time to eat dinner.

Little one, are you hungry?

Yes, I am.

I then got up and went to the kitchen. I brought back some sandwiches. It was late, and the cook had gone home. The only thing that was quick and easy was sandwiches. I know how to cook, but it was very late, and has been a long day. Getting her something to eat and a warm bath would benefit her. I wanted to make love again, but she was in no condition to do so. I will settle for feeling her naked body against mine. I finished my sandwich fairly quickly. I then went to the bathroom and started to run a warm bath.

Her body needed to relax from shifting for the first time. I could feel her muscles were still tense, and she was now shivering, which meant her body had finally cooled down enough that the ice bath had worked. Her body temperature was back to normal, but she was cold from the dramatic change in her body temperature. She needed to relax and have her muscles become tense from shivering. I carried her to the bathroom and placed her in the tub. I then changed the sheets and got dry, fresh blankets. I took the sheets and blankets to the washing room.

Mandy, the other maid I had in my house, was finishing up washing some of the warriorsclothes in the washroom.

Hey, Mandy.

Hey alpha, how is the Luna?

She is better.

* I will be in your room tomorrow finishing things up. It should be ready for you and Luna to return to it.

Thank you, Mandy.

Mandy was a young girl I helped rescue as a child. In a way, I and others finished raising her. She is like a daughter to me. She works in my house, and she sleeps in the servantsquarters so I can keep an eye on her. She is seventeen. Next month, she will turn eighteen. Her first shift was going to happen that night. We have a party planned for her. She and this young wolf, who will turn eighteen in a week, have their eyes on each

other, I have not disapproved of the match, but I have cautioned both flat you find your true mate when you turn eighteen.

They know that if they are not each other’s true mate, their relationship will change. He hangs around her all the time. He’s a lovely young man. I bid her good night, and then I returned to the room where we were staying. It is very quiet in the room. There should be some water splashing and noises corresponding to taking a bath. When I walk in, her eyes are closed, and her head rests against the wall. I can tell she is enjoying the warm water and relaxing.
