Chapter 44
Alfred POV
I was woken up by a soft finger tracing my eyebrow line. I did not want to open my eyes just yet. I was enjoying what she was doing. I had felt her get, and then I heard the toilet flush. She then came back to bed. That’s when she started to run her finger along my eyebrow. I was enjoying the sparks that were going through my body. I was going to lay there and enjoy her touch. Then I said with my eyes closed.
“Little one, you keep doing that, and I will have to return the favor.”
Am I supposed to be afraid of that?”
She was tempting me to do something in return. I could play this game with her.
“I would be if I were you.”
Whys that.”
I then started to kiss her, and in between kisses and touches, I told her what I was going to do, and then I did it. We were hot and heavy into a make–out session when there was a knock on the door. It was one of the guards that I had posted at the front door.
Umm, your majesty, we have visitors.”
”
What visitors.”
* The alpha of the Winterlands pack.”
I let out a growl filled with anger and hatred that shook the whole house. I immediately regretted doing it in Vanessa’s presence because she whimpered and hid under the blankets. I felt like a complete jerk for scarring her. But I was beyond angry. What the hell did he want? She is mine, and he will not be getting his hands on her. I’m going to put an end to this right now. I apologize and get dressed.
”
Baby, I’m so sorry.”
Stacey was running down the hall.
Get her to the safe room now. I will come get you both when the time is right.”
She did not even question me. She kissed me on the cheek and said
“Be careful, big brother.”

Then she disappeared into the bedroom. I waited to ensure they had gotten through the first secret door and that it was sealed shut like it was supposed to be. I then went to my office. When I walked into my office, the alpha from the Winterlands and six of his people were there.
ค
What can I do for you, Alpha Robert.”
I have come for the girl.”
She is my chosen mate, and her father promised her to me on her eighteenth birthday.”
She is my fated mate, and I have already marked her. She will not be leaving with you either.”
He stood up and threw the chair at me. My father and his warriors rushed in, and we were in hand–to–hand combat. My father yelled.
“ENOUGH.”
We all stopped what we were doing because the king’s alpha wolf powers could make us
stop.
You will not get the girl, and you must leave.”
They picked up their injured people and started to head out the door. Then the alpha turned around and stated,
The war is coming.”
Then he turned around and left. Now, I have to prepare for war. I went to the jail and went straight to Vanessa’s father’s cell.
“What did you promise, alpha, Robert?”
He was so weak and on the verge of death that he could not answer me. He was going to
die in a few days, and I was happy about that. I could tell that all the horrible things that I had ordered to be done had been done. I was about to leave when I heard him say.
“Please kill me.”
That angered me. Vanessa probably thought that when she was being tortured and sodomized. But her wolf kept her alive. In this situation, why was his wolf not doing the same thing? He’s an alpha, and it takes a lot to kill an alpha.
“Why is your wolf not keeping you alive?”
He did not respond to me, which angered me even more. His wolf probably left him when he was stripped of his title. I had heard of this happening but never actually witnessed it. I knew that Vanessa was safe, and she was with Stacey. They could wait while I went to the prophet. He would be able to tell me what was going on. I left the jail after I told him.
“You will continue to be tortured until you die.”
I had no mercy towards him. He didn’t show Vanessa any mercy. He had never stopped the abuse that was afflicting her; he participated in it. I then got into my car and drove to the prophet’s house on the other side of the territory. He preferred to be alone and away from everyone. Strangely, he had not been by to wish Luna and me well. I was on my way thinking about him when I saw a fire in the trees.
Someone was in the woods having a campfire. What the hell is going on? Who the hell is out here camping? I have not authorized anyone to camp. It was not time for the young ones‘ survival training just yet. Everyone in my pack, young and old, is trained to defend the pack if necessary. The only exceptions are the pregnant ones and the ones under five. But again, it was not that time of year. They go out to the forest and fish and learn what berries are edible. Also, what plants are suitable for healing, and what ones are good for food?
I plan on teaching Vanessa the same thing when the time is right. I reached the prophet’s house. The door was open, and I walked in. He always kept the house clean and organized. That must be him in the woods doing the fire. I walked towards where I saw the fire and assumed it was him.
Hey, Leroy.”
“I know why you have come.”
“The new Luna is special.”
He explained that she would fulfill the prophecy of the white wolf and tame the beast within me. It took a minute to register what he was saying. She is the white wolf. I only saw her wolf for a brief moment. It was like a white light, and then her wolf was gone. If she were a white wolf, then that would explain a lot. But there hasn’t been a white wolf in over three hundred years. The white wolf is gifted to a descendant of the moon goddess. But her family is not that ancient. I will do my research on them if my curse is broken tonight.
It was almost midnight. I would find out if she broke my curse. I went back to the house and went downstairs to get them. She was asleep on the bed. I walked over to her and stroked her hair.
“Little one, it’s time to wake up.”
She opened her eyes groggily, and then she was awake. It was time to find out if she had broken my curse.
