The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54

Vanessas POV

E

I was sore all over from the day and learning how to float in the water. The day went by fast. When we got back to the house, we took a shower, ate, and then went to bed. It was late, and there was a soft knock at the door. It was Chris. Alfred and Chris talked for a few minutes, then Alfred shut the door.

I’m sorry, beautiful, if that woke you.

Yes, it did, but it’s alright.

Is it true that my father has died?

Yes, he did.

I knew he had been sentenced to the same thing he put me through for years. He did not

even last a month. Oh, well, it’s nothing for me to get upset about. It wasn’t worth my time or energy. We then went back to bed. It felt like we had not been asleep long when

his alarm went off. He got up, and he tried to be as quiet as possible, but I was awake.

P

What’s on your agenda today?

I have some paperwork in my office to deal with, and then this afternoon you have a

final fitting for your dress.

Is it that day already?

Yes, little one.

I loved hearing him call me little one. I knew it was meant for me and only me. I knew that there was a celebration for all the wolves turning eighteen tomorrow, and I knew that

I could help with that if he would let me.

Have you hired people for the celebration tomorrow?

Yes, little one.

Can I go and help with that?

Yes, anything you want to do.

I squealed with delight. I wanted to do more than sit around and do nothing. I had no idea what the Luna of a pack does all day. My mother ordered people around all day, sat, ate, and got fat. I wanted to be useful. I have been so accustomed to cooking, cleaning, and doing things throughout the day that I’ve been bored since coming here. I have read books and similar materials, but I wanted to be more engaged. I have never felt this strong in my life. I got up and got dressed in a dress. It was the color of burnt orange, a perfect fall color.

I then put on the black boots and went to the kitchen. Mac was already there making breakfast.

Good morning, Luna.

You look beautiful.

Now, Mac, she is my Luna, not yours.

I can and will give her compliments from time to time, alpha.

83

They both chuckled. I knew by the tone in their voices that they were picking on each other. So I knew that it was nothing serious. For him to act jealous was nice. He was jealous that another man had complimented me. But that is the way of werewolf mates. They are very possessive and envious. Some people might say that’s a bad thing, but I liked it that way. Humans are not like that. They do get jealous. But they will not start a war over their partner. Werewolves will, though. I have seen it before. We finished eating, and Alfred escorted me to the spare bedroom that Jaques was using as the boutique.

I walked into the room, and he had my dress on a mannequin. It looked beautiful.

There is the beautiful lady.

I will step out and have you try the dress on.

He left the room, and I tried on the dress. It was too small in the bodice. I was shocked. I

stepped out from behind the curtain.

I’m ready.

He came back in and walked around me. At the same time, I stood in the middle of the

room.

You have put on some weight.

He said that with a smile and clapped his hands.

T

Alfred will be very pleased that you have gained weight.

83

I will have to take it out.

He was so pleased that I had gained weight. I knew that was a goal the doctor wanted me to achieve. He wanted me to put on fifty pounds. Which was a bit much, but the doctor knew best. I walked over to the fulllength mirror and looked at myself. I didn’t just glance; I stopped and stared at the image in the mirror. The person staring back at me was a woman. I was getting curves, but my rib bones did not show as much. My skin was starting to take on a healthy glow.

I squealed in delight, and both Jaques and Alfred ran into the room. I quickly covered myself because of Jacques. I was not worried about Alfred seeing me naked.

Little one, what is wrong?

Nothing.

Why are you squealing?

Because I am gaining weight.

Is that a good or bad thing?

It’s a good thing.

He came over to me and picked me up. I was still very light, so it was still easy for him to pick me up. But I was gaining weight. I wanted to stop worrying about that part of him. He was always worried about how much I was eating and how thin I was. He wanted me to get healthy. The vitamins I was taking are helping to increase my appetite. Which I was grateful for. Also, I have been eating three times a day. The moon goddess truly blessed me with a mate who cares. I was happy for the first time in my life. He carried me to the couch that was in there. Jaques had left and was waiting on the other side of the door.

Little one, you need to put your clothes back on before I ravish you.

I giggled and jumped off his lap. He walked over to the door and cracked it.

I need to teach this tease a lesson.

I knew he was being playful, and I pretended to hide behind the couch. He shut the door and had a mischievous smile on his face.

Now, where did she go?

83

He pretended he couldn’t see me. I ran from behind the couch, and then he followed. He acted as if he couldn’t catch me. But I knew better. But we were having fun. He started to act like he was going to jump over the desk that was between us. But I ran behind the changing curtain. He chased me and acted like he had hit his toe on the corner of something. I then ran out from behind the curtain and again behind the couch. This room had little to hide behind.

He chased me, and then this time, he caught me. He picked me up and gently threw me on the couch. He then jumped on top of me. The way he did it, though, he caught himself with his arms and was not putting his body weight on me. I giggled, and he then kissed

  1. me. We were both out of breath.
