Chapter 8
Alfreda POV
After buying her some clothes at the mall, I prayed to the goddess that the clothes would fit. I had entered the room earlier and left the bag of clothes on the bed. I was expecting her to be dressed when I came back. When I walked into the hospital room, the nurse was
taking the IV out of her hand. I was relieved for her that they were getting her ready. I was sad that she was not dressed yet. I asked the nurse about it, and she said she would take her into the bathroom and get her dressed. I said that I would do it. At first, Vanessa was apprehensive. But she warmed up to the idea.
I carried her into the bathroom and sat her on the toilet lid. She looked beautiful in her hospital gown. When I was sitting there watching her sleep, I saw all the scars on her back. Even thinking about them made me angry. It took everything I had not to storm out of the bathroom and kill her parents for what they did to her. She started to take off her hospital gown. After she took it off, she covered herself with her arms. I was kind of sad from what I saw. She was skin
and bones.
I will have to get her fattened up. I then said not to cover herself. She then dropped her arms. She was standing up, but I could tell her legs were shaking. She looked beautiful. She had this look on her face, like she expected me to reject her as my mate. But there is no chance of that happening. I’m keeping her forever. I handed her the bra, but she did not put it on. Then I told myself I was stupid because she can not wear a bra now. I put my head down and stomped on my toe.
I then handed her the shirt. She put it on, but I could tell she was uncomfortable wearing it, and that was a necessary evil. I then helped her get her pants on. She positioned them below the lowest sore. She was making sure she would be comfortable. I then handed her the shoes I bought her. At first, she looked shocked. But she needed shoes because it was cold outside. I was going to spoil her. She put her shoes on, and then I carried her to bed. I then noticed the dry–erase board on the bed. I read what she wrote. I answered her questions.
I then made it a point to let her know that I accepted her as my mate. She fainted, which caused me to panic. I thought something was very wrong. The nurse assured me that it was just a shock to what I said. She came to the room a little bit later and was holding her. After that, I picked her up and walked out into the hall. My warriors were lined up. They were there to help protect their Luna. She had a shocked expression on her face. I
had Karen, Chris’s mate, follow us out. Chris was to my right, and she was to my left. When we got through the doors to leave, the warriors were all over.

I felt the rage building up in me. They were not going to let us go. I was going to take my mate and leave. I handed her to Chris, who started to take her inside.

Hear, take her and keep her safe.”
He started to take her inside. Then Karen was by his side, and she took her and Chris returned to my side. We then got ready to fight.
“Move aside and let us pass.”
To my surprise, it was not the alphas of this pack standing there. It was Robert, the alpha
of the Winterlands. What did he want? Why was he here?
”
I have come to claim the bride I was promised.”
”
You can not have her. She is my fated mate.”
“I was promised a bride, and I will get what was promised.”
That was all it took. We shifted to our wolves and started fighting. I hit him with my razor–sharp claws and tore a pretty big opening in his face. Blood squirted everywhere. Karen was back, and she shifted. She started fighting. The alpha returned a hit to my mouth, knocking me down momentarily. I mind linked her.
”
Where is the Luna?”
“I locked her in a room in the hospital.”
I was pleased by that. She made sure she was safe. Unless you knew where she was or if you knew her scent, there was no finding her. We fought, and eventually they retreated.
“I will be back to claim what is mine.”
He may be back, but he will be killed next time he tries to take her. He was severely injured. It would take time for him to heal. After we ensured that all of them were gone, we shifted back to human form. Everyone was checked for injuries. Nobody was severely injured. We all cleaned up and got some clothes on. I then went to get Vanessa. Karen told me what room she was in. I unlocked the door. I slowly opened the door. The next thing I
knew, a metal bar hit me in the stomach. I fell to the ground.
“Vanessa, it’s me.”
She finally looked to see who was in the room. She ran, hugged, and helped me off the floor. She tried to find something to write on. She found paper and a pen. She wrote:
“I’m sorry, please don’t beat me.”
Baby, I have no intention of doing anything to you except loving and caring for you.”
She had a very shocked expression on her face. She will eventually learn that she will no longer get beaten or hurt. She will do better when I get her back to the Shadow Lands.
She needed to be away from this place. She fell against me and started to cry. She s

scared, and she tried to defend herself. I now understand why she was so afraid. She was promised to that man. He probably would have killed her. I could imagine all the vile and wicked things he would have done to her. I was getting angry. I started squeezing her when she began to push against me to get me to loosen my grip..
I immediately let go of her. She backed away from me very quickly.
“I’m so sorry.”
I was angry at someone else.”
I could see the fear in her eyes. I slowly walked towards her and held out my hand to her. She was hurting herself by standing. To my surprise, she took my hand. I gently pulled her towards me. I then kissed her. She did not respond at first, but then she wrapped her arms around my neck. She returned the kiss. As I was kissing her, I picked her up. We quit kissing and started to walk out of the hospital. She saw the blood and turned her head into my chest.
“It’s OK, baby, you are safe.”
