Chapter 100
Tristian
When I wake up, the first thing I notice is the pain I’m in. I’ve never felt anything like this before like my body has been ripped open. I let out a small whimper and try to move but it only makes things worse. “Tristian?” A sweet voice calls out to me and my nose is filled with the scent of lavender and mint so I open my eyes.
I meet doe–like eyes and lift my head. ‘Leah…?‘ Pain rips through me and I let out a small whine. She pats the top of my head and if I didn’t hurt so much, I’d be wagging my tail. ‘What happened to…!‘ Then memories of the battle come back to me. I immediately start sniffing her trying to see if she smells of blood. ‘Are you alright?!‘ Irrational panic runs through me.
Leah bites her lip and nods. “Yes… I’m ok.” She frowns but then continues to speak. “… Why, Tristian?” I tilt my head feeling confused. “Why did you… protect me? Why didn’t you run away? Why?” She sounds so frustrated.
Why is she asking me that? Shouldn’t it be obvious? I lower my ears. ‘Why?‘ I echo. ‘I just… didn’t want to lose you… I feel like you can help me be… Itrail · off and look down. Leah’s a big part of my redemption so I needed to protect her at all costs. Silas growls in agreement.
Leah’s face turns red. “You see me as a way to redeem yourself?” I snap my head up ignoring the pain. “That’s the only reason you did that?” Her angry
tone makes me panic. “I see… that’s how things are.” She turns her back clenching her fists.
‘Leah, wait! That’s not it! I… I call out to her and whimper in fear. ‘I felt like if I didn’t, I’d lose everything! I just… I wish I could go to her now! ‘I didn’t
want to lose you, Leah… please don’t leave…’
The smallest of gasps leaves her lips and Leah shakes without looking at me. It’s like “… the Alpha King wants to talk to you so I’m going to go and get
him.” Xander wants to talk to me?
‘Leah wait!‘ I call after her but she leaves without looking back. I grit my teeth and lay my head down on the bed. Why did I have to ruin everything? I’m so stupid!
Maybe I should just stop trying to gain any sort of redemption after all. I should accept my fate as a trashy b*st*rd of a rogue. I curl up in a ball ignoring the agony I’m in physically as I’m too focused on the pain in my heart.
I’m left in silence for a while but I know it isn’t going to last long, especially when the powerful presence of Xander is fast approaching. My fur stands on end but I can’t exactly sit up due to pain so when the Alpha King walks into the room with Leah behind him, all I can do is dip my head.
“It’s good to see that you’ve finally woken up,” Xander says as he walks over to my side. “You’ve been out for about three days now. Leah’s been worried sick about you.” I look over at Leah but she won’t meet my gaze anymore. I screwed up big time.
“Your wolf found the strength to get you out of our dungeons. I’m impressed.” Xander continues making me look back to him. “Something like that usually occurs when you fear for your mate’s safety. So tell me… is Leah your mate?”
This startles me and I stare at Xander blankly. Leah? My mate? I look at her again and she looks just as stunned. ‘No, I…‘ I trail off and bite my tongue. Why can’t I answer for certain? Daisy is my mate… Naomi is Silas’s mate… right?
Xander observes me and then shakes his head. “Perhaps one of you hasn’t accepted things completely yet.” He mutters rubbing the back of his neck.
a whole. Therefore…” “Anyway… based on your actions, you assisted in protecting our pack doctor who is key to the health and well–being of our p he eyes me carefully.
I hold my breath wondering what this is all about. I’m still a prisoner and outcast so this can’t be good. “As a reward, you will remain here until you get better. Then you will be escorted out where you will live your life as a rogue.” I stare at him stunned. “Don’t be so surprised. You did good this once and you warned us about the alliance in advance.”
His eyes then darken as I sense his wolf pushing through. I tense and lower my head as if bowing in my way. “If you try anything like harming my pack or betraying any of us… then I’ll make sure your life as a rogue is a complete nightmare.” Xander says lowly and I lower my ears in fear. “You have been warned. Don’t harm anyone in my pack… especially Leah. Understood?”
Every word has a dangerous edge to it. I have no choice but to respond even if it’s hard to find my voice. ‘Yes, my king… everything is understood crystal clear. Lkeep my ears low and soon Xander straightens up his wolf’s presence fading away.
Chapter 100
“Good. I will trust you to be alone with Leah while you’re as hurt as you are now. However, if you show any aggression, you’ll be sent down to the dungeon into a very uncomfortable and well–enforced jail cell.” Xander says and turns away. “He’s all yours, Leah. With that, he walks out leaving
two of us alone.
Leah doesn’t look at me as she walks over to a medicine cabinet. “I’ll make you a pain medication so you can get some sleep.” She murmurs and starts mixing some bitter–smelling herbs.
I grimace at the thought and just watch her. With every movement, her slender body glides around with ease as if she’s dancing Entranced in movements, I can’t take my eyes off of her. Many would think of Leah as a plain or dull–looking wornan and several years ago, I would be no different in my thinking. So why is she so beautiful to me right now?
“Oh, you may not feel Silas for a little while.” Leah suddenly says and looks at me. My ears heat up since I had been staring but she doesn’t call me out on it. “My wolf used her ability to help him out so he will be recovering on his own. I just wanted you to know so you didn’t worry.”
I tilt my head to the side. ‘What do you mean?‘ Leah approaches me and I cringe since she’s bringing the medicine over. ‘He isn’t just sleeping? What did she do?‘
