Chapter 18
Chapter 18
-One Month Later-
Aiden
As the Alpha of Crimson Moon, I have to always show strength with zero weakness. As we are true wolves of the night, we sleep in the day and are active at night. Every pack member is treated with kindness and respect. I won’t tolerate anyone bullying any of the Omegas either. One of these reasons is because of my late mate, Rosie.
I have her image forever in my mind: her beautiful wavy light brown hair, her bright green eyes, her cute freckled face, and her beautiful wolf form. Everything about her I have locked in my memory and I don’t see it ever changing.
We grew up together, Rosie and I. She was a lovely and bright young wolf who wanted to treat everyone fairly and kindly. Never once did she see herself as above anyone and even chewed me out when I behaved as such. Being a young and arrogant Alpha’s son, I always got myself into trouble with thinking like that.
She trained as a hunter and always brought home a nice meal even if it was something small like a rabbit. She was my first love and when I didn’t find my mate on my eighteenth birthday, I silently hoped that she would be my mate. Two years later, my wishes came true and Rosie was my mate and Luna.
I loved her with all my heart and soul. However, she was born weak and when she became pregnant
with our pup, she got sick. Her life was in danger but she refused to give up her pup. When it was time to give birth though, she only lived long enough to hold him before passing away. Soon after our son passed away as well because he was born way too soon.
Needless to say, I was in a bad state of mind for a long time. If I hadn’t vowed to live in her stead, I would have joined her after our son passed away.
“Aiden, my love… please… live on. If not for our pup… for yourself… for the pack…” Rosie had whispered to me and smiled sadly. “You’re so wonderful… and kind… I believe… you’ll find yourself an amazing… second chance…” she looked down at our pup next. “… He’s perfect… looks so much… like you…” When she closed her eyes, she whispered those words. “I love you… Aiden…” and that was the last thing she said.
Four years have passed since that day. My world ended when I was merely twenty and now? I’ve focused completely on my pack. I’ve made sure Crimson Moon is a pack to be respected and feared. No one dares to mess with us and asks for an alliance more often than not. So far, no pack has been worthy as they have nothing to give in return for our protection.
As I make my rounds, I make sure everyone is taken care of. “Has patrol returned yet?” I stop next to my Beta, Peter. He’s my best friend so I’m proud to have him as my second hand.
“Not yet, Aiden.” He says and runs his hand through his black hair. “They’re late today and haven’t sent any mind links to me. I hope they haven’t gotten lost.” His amber eyes flash half in annoyance and half in amusement.
“I’m assuming you sent the trainee warriors out then.” I chuckle a bit. When wolves turn twelve, they decide where they want to train based on their rank. From there mentors choose who they wish to train. Of course, the newbies always act haughty and cause trouble.
“That I did with their mentors too.” Peter shakes his head. “Always so slow their first time. They have over two weeks to learn the territory before the patrol so what’s the problem? We never had this issue when we were that young, did we?”
I laugh. “You make us sound like we’re old elders already when we’re only twenty-four.” I tease which makes him scowl. “We were taught by my father so we had it made. These new wolves don’t have an amazing teacher like him.”
Peter looks thoughtful. “I didn’t think that… good point.” He murmurs and then suddenly straightens up. I see his expression turn serious and shoot him a questioning look. “There’s a rogue in our territory. They caught it and have it surrounded, but need our help.”
I stiffen at the news. Rogue rarely cross our border and it’s usually a mistake on their end, but it’s still a serious situation. The young newbies are out there right now. “I’m coming with you,” I say immediately. I need to protect my pack.

Chapter 18
Peter gives a curt nod and we both take off using our wolf speed. I connect to their conversation to catch up on what’s going on. We have the rogue surrounded! She’s more defensive than anything but she’s a huge she-wolf!’ It’s one of the young wolves named Julia who’s talking.
‘Good. See if one of the grown-ups can make her shift so she isn’t as much of a threat. Peter instructs her as we run. There’s a long pause and it gives me anxiety. ‘Julia? Any news?’ He asks after a good few minutes.
‘Yes! Sorry!’ Julia sounds overwhelmed as she isn’t used to the mind link yet nor the stress of giving the Beta reports. ‘She’s shifts now. She’s small in her human form!’
I feel a bit relieved but as we get closer to the patrol, an amazing scent reaches my nose. My wolf, Ash, stirs for the first time in years and my heart starts to pound. What’s going on? I haven’t felt this way since Rosie!
