Chapter 31
Samuel
For a few months now, I’ve been searching for her, but still, I haven’t found a trace. Victor growls in frustration but we have to keep moving. She has to be ok… she’s out here somewhere, I just know it! “You better be alright, Daisy.” I snarl and shake out my fur.
Living as a rogue isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, I don’t have any packmates to count on and chat with, but I can take care of myself. The freedom is welcoming as well. I no longer have to do chores and be treated like a lesser wolf by the so-called higher-ranked wolves either.
The one thing that bothers me though is the loneliness. I’ve never been alone like this before even as an orphan. I always had Freda who cared for me as if I was her grandson and the other Omegas who cared about me like a sibling. Being completely alone with only my wolf is such a big change.
I let Victor take over so that he can hunt for us and wonder into my memories. Freda was also a constant in my life, but then so was Daisy. She always protected me when the other boys pulled me. As we grew up, she even took slaps and kicks for not only me but the other Omegas too.
I wish I had been strong back then. Then I could have protected Daisy instead of her taking the fall. I know in my heart that I wouldn’t have been a coward then if I had Victor like I do now. As a strong Beta, I could have stood up for her!
Dread suddenly creeps into my heart. But if I had always known how strong I was and so did Moonlight pack, I wouldn’t have been an Omega. Daisy and I wouldn’t have been friends either. Would I have joined in on the bullying and been a bastard like the rest of them?
‘Don’t think like that. Victor growls jerking me out of my bad thoughts. ‘I wouldn’t have let you become an arrogant bastard. Unlike their entitled mutts, I have morals and class. He huffs and takes down a rabbit.
Victor is a headstrong wolf indeed. Never once did he think he was better than the Omegas we worked with. If anything, he knew he was better than the wolves in power, especially the Summers family.
He lets me take control and I start to rip the rabbit apart hungrily. At first, I’d shift into my human form and cook the meat over a fire but as time went on, I decided it was a waste of time. Plus the taste of fresh kill is just so much better.
As I finish eating and start to lick my paws, I hear the rustling of leaves. My body freezes up and I take in the scents around me. Rabbit blood fills my nose first, but something underneath starts to emerge: the smell of wolves.
Victor growls and fights for control while I jump onto my feet heart pounding. Did I cross into pack territory by mistake? Or are these other rouges? I feel like I’m surrounded with no way to escape.
I let out a low growl as three grown wolves circle me with two younger ones following suit. Looks like the answer is obvious: I crossed into pack territory by accident. Or so I thought.
“What is a rogue doing so close to the border?” A gray and white she-wolf growls. “You’re just asking for trouble this way. I bet you stole that rabbit from us and dragged in over here too.”
So I didn’t cross into their territory. I feel relieved but I growl defensively. “I did no such thing. I’m not looking for a fight either.” I back away but they continue to circle me. What is their problem? I’ve done nothing wrong!
“We found prey bones from one of your kind so you better have a good explanation!” A male snaps. “You all even attacked one of our young wolves like the cowards you are!
Why are they blaming me for this? I dart my eyes around feeling on edge. “I just got here a few days ago. I’m looking for a friend of mine who ran away! I have no quarrels with your pack nor have I crossed your border to steal prey. Back off and I’ll
leave!”
I don’t want to get into a fight. While I have some training, I spent most of my life as an Omega. I can’t afford to get hurt

now. As they growl and get closer to me, I brace myself until a new voice calls out. “What’s going on over here?
A black wolf steps out into the clearing. I sense a Beta’s power coming from him. “Beta Peter! The she-wolf stammers and dips her head. “We smelled this rouge close to the border and came to investigate. We have reason to believe he stole prey
from us!”
Peter looks at me and I hold his stare defiantly. I have no reason to back down. I see. Well then, rogue, I believe my Alpha would love to ask you questions.” My heart sinks at his words. “I sense a powerful wolf in you. What a shame you’re a rogue He jerks his head to his pack mates and they come in closer.
1 let out a warning growl but I’m forced forward. Why am I so unlucky? I can’t afford to become a prisoner! I need to find Daisy! Of course, I have no choice and as we get closer to their base, my nerves kick in.
I already feel uncomfortable around these wolves so won’t I be a nervous wreck around a whole pack? Have I become this feral in just a few months? I swallow and hold my head up high. I can’t be weak anymore.
