After a whole week, not only can we not find Skylar, but Zoey, the only one with reliable information, is still unconscious too. Poor Ebony can’t seem to remember anything well enough and only vaguely remembers a huge monster-like wolf chasing them in the woods that were somehow yellow. Olivia told me that it was her mind’s way of coping with trauma.

I can’t blame the little girl for being traumatized by this. Not only did her best friend get taken away but her mother was badly injured as well. I still can’t believe this happened! Who would dare do this around so many pack wolves?!

I let out a faint groan and look over to Daisy who is asleep right now. I can see the dried tears on her cheeks and that alone makes me snarl. Taking my son and causing my pregnant mate terrible grief? They’re going to pay for this!

I kiss her forehead and watch as her face twists. As she curls up in a ball, I hear her whimper his name. “Skylar…” my heart breaks even more. She’s done nothing but be an amazing person all her life while also enduring abuse and hate as she grew

“Please… don’t leave me…” Daisy whimpers as tears run down her face. “I’m sorry… Skylar, please… I don’t hate you… never… please baby…” My heart sinks. She’s locked in that nightmare again.

I lie down next to her and hold her close. “Shh… Daisy, my love… calm down.” I whisper and rub her back as she struggles and cries in her sleep. I grit my teeth but keep my voice calm. “We’ll find him… and I’ll make whoever took our son pay.” I hear Ash growl in agreement.

Daisy whimpers but after some coaxing and back rubs, she seems to sleep easier. I kiss her forehead and stand up. As much as I would love to stay with her, my rage won’t stop building so I need to get out of here before I explode.

I walk outside to get some fresh air. As this isn’t Crimson Moon territory, I can’t just go out to my favorite spot and think for a while either. Rather than think though, I’d just punch a tree until it fell over. I run a hand through my hair and let out a stressed sigh.

“Greetings, Alpha Aiden.” I hear the Alpha King’s voice and see him standing there in only some sleep pants. It’s so odd to see him like this. “I’m sorry that you haven’t found him yet.” He offers a sincere smile. “I’ll do everything in my power to help you out.”

I let out a sigh and nod. “Thank you, Xander. I appreciate your support in this.” I say and look up at the sky. “I wish we could find any leads at all. Who knows when Zoey is going to wake up.” If she ever will. That thought makes my heart ache more. I don’t want to lose her either.

Xander nods. “We will find him. I vow as the Alpha King. Whoever did this will be punished thoroughly.” I look at him and see his eyes darken and turn dark blue. “We will never tolerate anyone who harms and kidnaps pups.”

I shudder as I feel the powerful presence of his wolf, Zeke. It’s rare that he ever surfaces but when he does, he means business. Zander has a powerful stance of his own and doesn’t rely heavily on his wolf. He became an amazingly feared king on his own merits which is why he’s so respected.

“Thank you, Zeke. I also appreciate your support in this. If I may ask this of you though… let me handle any punishment on the physical side.” I clench my fists. I relish the idea of tearing this person limb from limb.

Xander takes over again and chuckles. “Of course. Just know that I will need to formally give my judgment and permission beforehand. I don’t wish to cause you any trouble due to any technicalities.” He then looks around. “Your pack doctor is coming over so I will take my leave. Anna won’t want me gone for long.” He says before walking off.

Olivia is coming to see me? Hope makes my heart pound and I rush over to meet her halfway. Is Zoey finally awake? Will we have our questions answered? As I walk up to her, the look on her face says it all. My excitement is replaced with dread.

“Aiden, I need to give you my report.” Olivia smiles sadly at my expression. “I’m sorry, Aiden. Zoey is in stable condition but her injuries are extreme. She’s lucky to be alive at all.” She sighs. “It breaks my heart to see poor Ebony so lost.”

Chapter 44

I swallow hard and brace myself for what I’m about to ask. I hate to get straight to the point in times like this but I have to ask. “Do you know when she’ll wake up?”

Olivia shakes her head crushing what little hope I have left. “I do not have an answer for that. She may not remember the attack clearly or at all either. It’s hard to say in cases like this.”

If Zoey wakes up and doesn’t remember the attack then what can we do? “Days or weeks?” I ask and watch her. Her expression only gets worse. “Months…” I grit my teeth and now I have my answer.

It could take Zoey months to wake up. Who knows if Skylar will even still be… the air is knocked out of me and I stumble back. “Aiden!” I barely register Olivia’s voice.

It never mattered to me that Skylar wasn’t my child by blood. In my eyes, he will always be mine because he’s Daisy’s too. Memories flood my mind of him as a newborn. I’ve never loved someone as much as him when I held him in my arms.

I can’t picture my life without him. Everything would fall apart just like when I lost Rosie and our pup too. I lost all hope of being complete again but then I was blessed with not only a second chance of having a mate but also a second chance of being a father. Losing Skylar would send me back to that dark place again.

I don’t sense him until he’s right next to me. I faintly hear his voice and look at him. Peter puts a hand on my shoulder and speaks to me. I can’t hear him but I can read his lips. ‘Breathe, Aiden. In and out slowly. Breathe for me.
