I find myself sitting by a lake I’ve never seen before yet I feel at ease. I lean back enjoying the moonlit forest around me and take in a deep breath. The air is so clean tonight and it feels like all my worries are fading away.

How did I get here? I’m not sure I want to know because then that means I have to go back. But to what? I frown as I stare off at the lake. Who am I? Where am I? Why is everything a blur? As I look into my memories I don’t have an answer. I feel like I’m a blank slate with nowhere to go.

I look at my reflection in the lake. Yep, same dark brown hair and hazel eyes. But do I seem a bit… older than I should be? As I try to remember my age, nothing comes to me. Maybe I’m just a teenager and that’s all I need to know. Everything is just making me so antsy and nervous.

My unease grows especially when I hear leaves rustling behind me. As I look back, I catch sight of someone so beautiful. It’s a girl I’ve never seen before either… yet does she seem so familiar? It feels like I’m looking at my other half and I want nothing more than to hold her close.

Her long black hair looks purple in the moonlight as do her dark black eyes. Her eyelashes are full and thick, and under her left eye is a small beauty mark. Her creamy skin shines and looks so lovely. She’s breathtaking even in her plain hoodie and dark shorts.

“Skylar…?” She breaths out and stares at me with wide eyes. I pause at this name. It feels so right… is that my name? She approaches me slowly only stopping when she’s right in front of me. “Is that really you?” Her voice trembles and 1 see tears shimmering in her eyes.

I stand up and gently place a hand on her cheek. Sparks of electricity come between us and she shivers under my touch. As I look into her eyes, a name comes to mind. Her hair and eyes are black… so it only seems fitting right. “Are you… Ebony?” I ask carefully. “That name… suits you so… I hope you are.” It fits her like a glove.

She gasps out and leans into my touch. “Sky… it is you…” A stray tear falls and I wipe it away with my thumb. A moment later, she hugs me tight and hides her face in my chest. As I wrap my arms around her, I feel complete. “Oh Sky… I’ve missed you so much…” her voice cracks.

I rub her back and smile gently. “Ebony…” I put my nose in her hair and breathe in her scent. She smells like home… she feels so right. “I’m so sorry. Ebony…” I feel my shirt getting wet from her tears. What have I done to upset her so much? “Let’s sit by the lake for a while… it’s our favorite spot isn’t it?” Why did I ask that? Why does it feel so natural?

Ebony peeks up at me. She’s so adorable. I feel like the luckiest wolf alive right now. “Y–yeah… it is.” She looks out at the lake before we both sit down again. She leans against my shoulder and sighs. “I love… seeing the stars reflecting in the water… don’t you find it beautiful, Sky?”

I look down at her and find myself lost in her eyes. “Yeah… very beautiful indeed,” I murmur. Her eyes reflect the stars just as well as the night sky. Ebony blushes and looks back out at the water. “It’s also so peaceful.” go on. Why does my face feel so warm? “I can stay here forever… and not have to worry about anything.”

Ebony smiles and nods. “I feel the same way… I could live out here and be completely content. As long as you are here of course.” She nuzzles my arm. “You’re my best friend, Sky… I’m glad you’re finally back home with me.”

This makes me puzzled. “Back home…?” Where is home? Right now, home feels like where Ebony is. I nuzzle the top of her head. “Me too… I’m happy to be by your side. I never want to be apart from you ever again.” This I know for sure.

‘Yes, Skylar‘ Jaden whispers in my head. ‘Don’t forget who you are. This is where you belong by her side. She’s beautiful isn’t she?‘ My face gets even warmer. ‘She’s ours, Skylar. Remember where you belong. Remember who you are.‘

Jaden always says those words but I never understood what they meant. Sitting here with Ebony makes everything clearer. However, just as I realize this, the world around us starts to disappear.

“Sky?! What’s going on?” Ebony stammers and looks up at me. Suddenly we’re being pulled apart. “No! Sky, don’t leave me!” She reaches out to me and I try to grab her hand but she’s too far away/Tears stream down her face as she starts shrinking down and fades away. “SKY!!!”

I do everything I can to get to her but soon enough I can’t see her anymore. As the world collapses and darkens around me, Jaden calls out to me. ‘Don‘ forget who you are! Skylar, don’t…!‘ Then his words fade away as I black out.

Chapter 64

I shoot awake feeling hands on me shaking me hard and pant heavily. I feel soaked like I’m in a water puddle. As I look up, a face comes into focus Father is looking down at me with a scowl. “Hurry up already, Keith!” He mutters. “Your mother is having her baby.” With that, he leave me along storming out of

the room.

I catch my breath as that name echoes in my mind. Keith… right… that’s my name. I’m Keith, why doesn’t it feel right now? I force myself up and try to remember my dream. It’s all fading away so fast and I swear I still hear someone crying out for me. A girl… a pretty girl… but why can’t I remember anything?

I let out a sigh and run my hand through my hair. It feels damp too. Right… mother is having a baby… wait. They said that it wasn’t supposed to come for another month or so! I tense and get dressed before heading out.
