As Daisy runs after Peter and Samuel, I frown deeply. What’s going on with Peter anyway? He hasn’t been himself in so long that it’s worried me for ages but with everyone going on with the pack and Skylar’s kidnapping, I never got a chance to ask before he left with Zoey for Royal Pack.

I clench my fists and look down at my pups. “Can you two stay with Hazel for a little while? I’m going to check on your mother and Uncle Sammy.” I pat the tops of their heads.

Lily pouts and puffs out her cheeks. “But we finally get to see you again!” She complains. Davin bites his lip but nods in agreement. “You better not take too long!” She says firmly.

I smile down at Lily. She reminds me so much of myself at that age. “Of course. I’ll be back soon.” I look at Hazel. “You don’t mind, right?” I ask with a sheepish grin since I didn’t run this passed her ahead of time.

Hazel is looking out into the woods with narrowed eyes and a tense body. The rage and worry are evident on her face which worries me even more. What is Peter doing with Samuel out there? “Of course, Aiden. I don’t mind at all.” She finally looks at me and smiles. “I’ll make sure they don’t get into any

trouble.”

I nod gratefully while Lily complains about never getting into any trouble. “Thank you.” With that, I take off after Daisy’s scent. My anxiety creeps up as I try to think of what this could be. Why is Peter acting like this and what does Samuel have to do with anything?

I spot the two and stay in the shadows. I smell Daisy close by but I decide to stay put my curiosity needing to be quelled. I look out and see Peter hovering over Samuel with him pinned to a tree. That dark look in his eyes scares me but I’m stunned to hear what he says next.

“That’s my pup, isn’t it?” Peter asks in a dark tone. “Don’t you dare lie to me either!” He gets closer to Samuel right in his face. What does he mean by his pup? Rosalina? But how can that be?

Samuel clenches his fists and glares up at him. He isn’t intimidated at all which impresses me. Either that or he’s just very brave and good at hiding fears. “Rosalina is not your pup,” He says without hesitation. “I am her father and Hazel is her mother. You’re nothing more than a stranger, Peter! Why are you bothering me anyway? You have your own chosen mate after all.”

As I stand there my mind races. I’m starting to get a clear picture of this situation but I need to ask Peter outright. He always talks to me about these things even admitting to me that he loved Rosie back when she was alive and we just found out we were mates. So why hasn’t he spoken to me now?

Peter snarls and I look back out at them. He’s glaring down at Samuel as if trying to figure him out but Samuel only meets his gaze in daring defiance. Suddenly he grabs the back of his head and clashes their lips together.

My eyes widen at this exchange. I can just see Peter’s desperation behind the action while Samuel is taken off guard as he lets out a gasp. It doesn’t last long though as Peter suddenly shoots back and I smell blood. Samuel must have bitten his tongue.

A white flash moves quickly and throws Peter to the side away from Samuel. Sensing her energy, I know Naomi wants control but Daisy won’t let her take over. As she stands between the two, she snarls, “Don’t you ever manhandle Sammy ever again! You may be Aiden’s best friend and very lucky to be his Beta but you’re nothing to me.”

Peter snarls picking himself up. “Stay out of this!” He snaps. “You’re the one who started it all in the first place!” My skin crawls as he glares at my mate. Is he threatening her? Ash growls in my mind wanting to step in and protect our mate.

Both Samuel and Daisy look confused. My mate shakes her head. “Don’t use that tone with me. I am still your Luna and I can you as I wish. Stay away from my best friend, you toxic b*st*rd!” What the hell did he do?! I need an answer from him this time!

Daisy turns to Samuel and her tone softens. “Let’s go, Sammy. Hazel is worried about you… and Rose can wake up at any moment.” Samuel wipes blood off his lips and takes her hand. I know they’re both done with this conversation.

Peter calls out as they walk away. “You can’t hide it from me, Samuel! That pup smells nothing like that woman of yours!” Samuel doesn’t look back but does flinch when he screams out his name. However, Daisy only shakes her head at him and they walk away.

Peter punches a tree hard enough to mess his hand up before he sets his forehead on it and starts to shake. I’ve never seen like this before. Once Daisy and Samuel are long gone, I step out and walk over to my best friend. “Peter.” He snaps his head over to face me.

Tears are running down his face but they appear to be ones of anger rather than sorrow. Peter grits his teeth. “Leave me alone, man. I’m not in the mood for any mocking or ‘words of wisdom‘ you might have.” He wipes his face and starts to walk passed me but I grab his arm. “Dude, I mean it! Just..

I cut him off looking him square in the eye. “What did you do?” I ask point blank. “What the hell did you do, Peter? What’s gotten you to this point? Why are you acting like this?” I tighten my grip on his arm. “Answer me, Peter. Don’t make me give you an Alpha’s order.”

Peter glares at me. I know he doesn’t want to discuss this but I need answers. I don’t want to make assumptions! I want the truth. “… I f*ck’d ‘p, man.” He finally mutters and clenches his trembling fists. “I f*ck’d *p everything and I don’t know how to fix it.”

Peter’s whole body shakes while more tears fall. I watch him closely. “Is Samuel your mate?” He flinches and glares at me. That’s confirmation enough. “What did you do?” I frown. “And why did you take Zoey as a chosen mate then? Were you afraid of being with a man or what?”

Peter grits his teeth and glares at the ground. “No… that was never an issue. I told you before… Rosie was the only girl I’ve ever liked that way.” His wording makes me realize what he means. “His wolf was protecting him at first… he didn’t know when he first came to the pack but I did… I knew from the very beginning. Who knew my mate was going to be her spitting image?”

I nod slowly though I’m more surprised than anything. “Why didn’t you ever tell me you found your mate? I would have listened to you at any point… what are friends for right?” I am hurt that he never told me about this but I’ll let it go for now. “But Peter… that doesn’t answer my question. What. Did.

You. Do?” I ask slower this time.

Peter shakes and doesn’t want to speak. His rage must be directed towards himself. I’ve never seen him hate himself like this before. “The night Skylar went missing… is when everything started.” He says. “Long story short… he found out and was fine with it. We even… well he was in heat so…”

I blink and stare at Peter in a daze. “In heat?” I echo. “Samuel is a man so how was he in heat?” That doesn’t make any sense to me. How can a male wolf go through that? He’s not secretly trans, is he?

Peter shrugs. “Samuel is very special… someone who isn’t physically one or the other… both genders in one.” He says making me blink. Samuel is a hermaphrodite? I didn’t expect that at all. It runs in Rosie’s family but it’s still very rare.
