As we make the long journey to Royal Pack’s territory, Rose talks our heads off asking so many questions. “Where are we going? Why are we going? Will make new friends? Och, will I eat yummy foods?!” I chuckle softly at her innocence. She’s a sweet little one and I couldn’t love her more if I tried. How close to the end, she tired herself out fast asleep in my arms

Surprisingly Davin and Lily are quiet but I think it’s more out of spite than anything. Daisy and Aiden must have broken a promise by suddenly running off and leaving the two behind. I hope their parents are prepared for their vengeance!

Meanwhile, as I walk closer, the butterflies in my stomach continue to grow. The closer we get, the sooner I’ll see Peter again which I don’t think I’m ready for. Will lingering feelings surface the moment I see him? Will he see Rose and immediately know she’s his biological pup?

Hazel touches my arm and smiles up at me. I see her nervousness and fear in her eyes but for a different reason. Trent is coming after her using this was as a means to get what he wants. I swallow hard and look forward. I have to protect my little family now. Any drama with Peter that could happen is irrelevant at this point.

“Don’t be afraid, Hazel,” I tell her. “Just like last time, I will protect you. Nobody threatens my family and gets away with it.” I look at her again. “You’re my chosen mate, Hazel. You’ll always be family to me.”

Like with Daisy, I see Hazel as a little sister and I think she knows this already. However, she only smiles and nods. “I know you will You’re my savior, Samuel. I’ll always be grateful for what you did for me that day.” Her blue eyes shimmer and I know deep down how she feels about me but u also know that I’ll never be able to return those feelings.

I smile at Hazel and then look forward again. We’re very close now so I reach out to Daisy. ‘Daisy? We’re close by! Some of the Alpha King’s wolves are leading us to you. I can feel her perk up through the mental link. She must be so excited. ‘The little ones can’t wait to see you again.

‘And I can’t wait to see you all again.‘ Daisy answers cheerfully and I can’t help but chuckle. I’m so glad that her family is finally going to be complete. Too bad this war is going to put the happy reunion on the back burner for a while.

As the scent of more wolves gets closer, our three escorts call out, “We’re coming in!” Then we all pile into the clearing. The sight of Daisy and Aiden brings a smile to my face but that’s not what catches my eye. Behind them on a porch is Skylar hand–in–hand with Ebony.

I’m shocked at how big he’s grown! Skylar had looked so much like Tristian back then but now I see so much of Daisy in him too. He seems nervous and wary of everyone but with Ebony by his side, I’m sure he’ll calm down soon enough.

“Mama! Papa!” Davin and Lily squeal and run over to their parents. The reunion is sweet and fun. I’m sure the two are going to receive an earful from the two fiery pups about that broken promise too!

I’feel eyes on me but I ignore it for now. I know who it is but I’m not ready to face him yet. I turn to face Hazel and nod. “When they get done, we can go and see them again.” I smile. “You’ll be safe here, Hazel… no one is going to let that rogue take you away.”

Hazel bites her lip. “Yeah, I know… I just can’t help feeling nervous is all.” She mutters. “Right now I’m more worried about you,” she glares at someone on the ground. “He won’t stop looking at us… what a creep.”

I swallow hard and offer her a small smile. “I’ll be fine.. I was going to have to face him eventually… but make no mistake.” I place a hand on her shoulder. “You are and always will be Rosalina’s mother. You helped me raise her from day one. He has nothing on you nor any claim.”

Hazel blinks slowly then smiles and hugs me gently. “Thank you, Samuel…” she whispers. “I love Rose as if she were my own. I…” she trails off and leaves the obvious unsaid. “I will always be here for you too.” She pulls back and smiles. “Anyway… they look like they’re done so… Daisy!” She calls out and approaches our pack leaders. “It’s so good to see you! I’m so happy that little Sky was finally found.”

I smile at Daisy as she nods. “You must be over the moon with joy,” I say and pat Rose’s back gently making her mumble in her sleep. M a cutie! “I know it’s hard because he doesn’t remember everything but he’s safe now.” I know everything that happened and what she’s just wish I could help her.

Hazel giggles. “I hope they all get along!” I nod in agreement before i tense up. That familiar scent is coming closer and soon enough Peter is standing front of us. That dark look in his eyes scares me but I meet his stare in defiance. “What do you want now!! Can’t you see this is a happy moment? She

Peter narrows his eyes but ignores her to focus on me…. no… he’s staring at Rose instead. I grit my teeth and hand my pup over to Hazel making him growl lowly. “What is it that you want?” I ask in a calm tone even if I don’t feel calm at all. I wish I could just bolt and be aware of those eyes of his. They only bring back faint memories of that wild night we had together.

Peter stares me down making me feel even more uncomfortable. “I’m going to make you tell me the truth.” He grabs my arm making me freeze up “There’s no way that’s a pup you had with that woman. Not when we both know what you are.”

My blood runs cold. There’s no way he’s going to yell my secret in front of everyone right?! I grit my teeth. “Hazel is her mother and nothing you do will ever change that fact.” I snap.

Peter snarls and starts yanking me away. Fear runs through me while Hazel yells after us. “Stop!” She sounds so p’ss’d off. “Let Samuel go, you bruter* ( know she wants to follow but she can’t with Rose with her!

I look back at her and shake my head quickly. ‘Take care of Rose! I’ll handle this b’st’rd myself‘ Hazel locks eyes with me before nodding. I’m glad she understands so I smile gratefully. I know they’ll both be safe at least.
