Chapter 94
Peter
The trees around me are a green and brown blur as I run. Time slows down as my heart pounds loudly in my ears. Never before have I felt so much anxiety and fear in my life. He could be in danger… he and our little girl could be so afraid and I’m not there to protect them!
‘We’re under attack! They’re going after the children, come quick! We need backup!‘ Those words echo loudly in my ears. Nothing else matters to me
right now.
If the Luna Queen wasn’t also in danger, I would be the first to arrive. I’d be ahead of everyone with the desire to protect my mate. Instead, Alaric is the one leading the charge desperate to protect his mate and pups with everything he’s got. He gets the same fears and desires but can execute them better
than me.
I shake my head and continue to run. A trip that shouldn’t take that long at all feels like it’s taking hours. The closer I get the more anger and fear run through my heart. What if I’m too late? What if I can never make up for the many mistakes I’ve made?
Going out this morning, I made a vow to myself. After this war, I would clear up the misunderstandings I’ve created. I would tell Samuel why I pushed him away the morning after we mated. I would tell him how I feel and apologize to everyone I wronged especially Zoey and Ebony. Once there was peace again, then I’d make things right.
This resolve is what gave me hope for the future. Maybe one day Samuel will forgive me. Maybe we can be together: two Betas of Crimson Moon supporting our best friends and raising our daughter together. Maybe I can work hard enough to be forgiven by Zoey for treating her as a rebound. Looking forward to that future breathed new life into me.
But it could all be taken away from me now. I grit my teeth and rush forward. If I lose my chance, then I’ll have nothing. Living with myself for this long hasn’t been easy. If I can’t make it up to my mate, then what’s the point?
As we get closer to Royal Pack’s main hub, the sounds of chaos and the sickeningly rotten scent of rogues only get stronger. Mixed into those scents was always the smell of Moonlight mutts too. Remembering what Samuel told me about how he was treated by that pack, my blood boils over and I start to see red. They don’t deserve to be considered a pack of wolves at all!
Alaric lets out a loud growl. ‘Attack! Don’t show any mercy! This is not a fight with honor in mind!‘ His order makes me tense as I’m compelled to listen. The others behind me tense and most likely feel the same way. With that, he bursts into the clearing without warning.
We all follow suit and the scene around us startles me. The rogues outnumber the wolves left behind but they’re holding their own well surprisingly enough. I look around frantically for Samuel before I’m thrust into battle.
Two wolves shove me to the ground and growl in my face their breaths stinking of spoiled meat. Before they can take a bite out of me, I punch one hard in the snout and kick the other off hard enough before jumping to my feet. I snarl and shift into my wolf form before lunging forward.
Isaac loves the thrill of fighting. Ever since I could remember knowing him, he’s always been continuously hyped up for battle training, and sparring especially excited him to no end. Nothing is quite like the real thing. Tearing into flesh, hearing yelps, and chasing them away like prey gets the blood pumping nicely indeed.
Once those wolves are defeated, Isaac jumps into another fight in glee. ‘Wait! We need to find Samuel and Victor first!‘ I try to reason with him with no such luck. This is what I get for letting him take control. It’s hard to bring him out of this until he gets his fill after all.
Then the sound of a yelp catches our attention. We look towards the sound and know who made it. ‘Mate!‘ Isaac growls and takes off towards it. The smell of blood is everywhere and even stains my pelt, but I catch the scent of Samuel’s blood instantly. He’s hurt!
“LET HIM GO!!!” Hazel screams ahead of me and soon I see what’s going on. Samuel is pinned to the ground by two big wolves bloody and growling defiantly while Hazel is being held back by a familiar rogue: Trent. “Stop!!! Stop hurting my mate!”
Trent laughs and holds her close. “Baby girl, you’re mine and you know it. Just because he’s marked you doesn’t mean he’s yours. Not at all… and until you agree to come back to me…” he snaps his fingers and one of the wolves bites him hard making him yelp again. “I’m going to make sure he suffers a slow and painful death.”
My vision turns red, In that moment I don’t stop Isaac as he uses his wolf speed and attacks the two wolves holding down our mate. The attacks catch

them off guard which works to my advantage. I bite into one of their throats and shake them hard the taste of their blood as sour and rotten as theic
scent.
As the other wolf tries to get me off of the other. I picture them as an ant crawling all over my pelt and being a mere bother to me. What a joke! pounce on them and start ripping them to pieces.
In the back of my mind, a faint voice calls my name. … ter… ter… PETER!!!‘ Finally, I recognize the voice and freeze. Looking down at the wolf underneath me, alll see is dark crimson. The wolf is whimpering and begging for mercy as submissively as possible. I’ve taken things way too far.
Dazed, I step back and blink slowly. The chaos is still going on and makes my ears ring loudly. Standing next to me on shaky legs is Samuel. The blood on his russet fur makes it look wet more than anything. ‘Mate…‘ Isaac whines and nuzzles his face into his side,
Samuel tenses and stares at me. He looks unsure of this attention but doesn’t shake least off at least. ‘I’m ok. You can stop now.. you don’t have to kill someone weaker than you.‘ He tells me carefully.
Isaac whimpers and nuzzles him again. Samuel looks uncomfortable but stays still letting Isaac be happy that he’s alright. ‘If I lose you… I can’t… He sounds pathetic and weak right now making me feel guilty. He went along with what I did but it wasn’t his fault that he couldn’t be with his mate either
‘I’m fine.‘ Samuel repeats. ‘We need to get going! Hazel’s in trouble!‘ That name makes Issac tense up. ‘That rogue wants to kidnap and take her away! Let’s go!‘ He nudges me before sniffing the air and taking off.
Samuel cares about Hazel but does he love her? Isaac growls at the thought and takes off after him. ‘She raised our pup with him for this long. Of course, he cares about her.‘ I reason but I don’t like it either.
