Defending the pups is a no–brainer for me. I was trained as a warrior and continued my studies even after coming to Royal Pack. Doctor Leah told me having a schedule and continuing down the path I was before would help me with my lost memory. Too bad it didn’t come back sooner.

Luckily, my wolf is larger than most she–wolves though I don’t match up to Luna Queen Anna. Her gray and white wolf form is built with power which is why she is also perfect for protecting the pups. No one will be able to harm them with the two of us here especially when our pups are in the mix. The thought of any of these bastards getting close to Ebony makes my blood boil.

We are outnumbered by a lot. All we can do is hold the rogue and Moonlight scum off until the others show up. I can tell the others are getting tired but then a loud howl echoes the clearing. Anna perks up. ‘Xander!‘ She yips in joy hearing her mate. Must be nice!

As the reinforcements rush in, I let out a sigh of relief. Now I know for sure no one will harm my pup. As I look around, I spot Peter and scowl. It’s obvious who he’s looking for! I shouldn’t be bitter but he did deceive and use me like a discount doll. I have every right to be angry.

I watch him rush off but as he disappears, Belle starts to whine in my head. Is she missing Peter and Isaac now?! However, her antsy behavior doesn’t

make sense for that to be the reason. ‘What’s going on?‘ I ask her.

Belle whines. “We have to go! They’re in danger. I tense puzzled by her words. Who’s in danger? ‘Don’t you smell them? Our mate is in trouble!‘ My heart stops and I dig my nails into the ground.

What does Belle mean by our mate? Has she known all along? However, by her whines and restlessness, perhaps this pull just appeared out of nowhere. If one’s mate is another’s second chance, then a pull that was never there before may just appear out of nowhere.

I sniff the air smelling nothing but blood. Where could they be? ‘Zoey?‘ Anna asks and I look back to her. ‘What’s going on?‘ She studies my expression the best she can then nods. ‘Go to them.‘ Understanding flashes in her eyes. ‘I’ll get Daisy to help me. Go find your mate.’

I take a deep breath and start to run. I don’t know where to go and yet my paws carry me in a certain direction. Who are they? Will they accept someone

like me who was deceived, used, and tossed aside?

As I run deeper into the woods, a mouthwatering scent reaches my nose, one of sweet and floral moonflowers with a hint of fruity lychee. ‘Mate!‘ Belle whines and I race towards that scent. I know that scent. I know who it belongs to! Why did it take so long for our connection to appear?

Then a sight comes into view that turns my vision red. A rogue is manhandling my mate! Close by I smell Samuel and Peter, but they won’t get here in time. Then I lose all reason when I hear her cry out, “L–let me go!”

I rush forward and rip that b*st*rd away from her. I stand in front of her and snarl lowly as the rogue scrambles to his feet. Flashes of my past come to me but I no longer have to worry about the man who abused me. I killed him years ago when we crossed paths again.

“Don’t butt into my business you mutt!” Trent snarls and gets to his feet. He glares daggers into me and only holds his gaze without flinching. Someone as puny as him means nothing. How dare he try and pierce her with that! “That b*tch is mine! She’s my mate so stay out of this!”

I snarl and dig my nails into the ground.“Until she decides to reject me, if she does, Hazel is my mate. Mine and mine alone! And she’s definitely no b*tch! ‘Get away from MY mate, rogue scum!’ His eyes widen at my declaration and it’s then that I pounce.

He’s taken off guard as t bite hard into his arm. He punches me away but I merely shake it off. Sensing Belle’s rage, I let her take over and it’s all over for him. She starts ripping him to shreds. Panic flashes in his eyes and he suddenly shifts into his wolf form.

Nothing stops us. He’s nothing but weak and whimpering prey at this point. We tear into his pelt his rotten blood spraying onto the bark of the trees behind us. Soon, Belle lands a killing blow by biting hard into his neck. However, she steps back and shakes out our pelt letting him bleed to death rather than putting him out of his misery. Why not make him suffer for his crimes against Hazel?

Belle lets me back into control and I turn walking over to my mate. Samuel doesn’t bother me as he’s more of a cinnamon roll than anything but Peter is a different story. Why is this prick so close to my mate?! I snarl at him and surprisingly he backs off and dips his head. I glare at him before turning my attention to my mate.

Hazel’s eyes are wide and looking at me in awe as if in a trance. I nudge and sniff her gently looking for any wounds. Other than her clothes being a mess,

the only injury she has is a sprained ankle. Thank the Moon Goddess!

Hazel puts a shaky hand on the side of my face and I meet her blue eyes. She’s been crying! “… I’m safe now… thank you, Belle…” She wraps her arms around my neck and hugs me tight. “Thank you… Zoey…”

My heart pounds and my tail starts to wag. Hazel’s not going to reject me… I nuzzle gently and lick some tears away. At this moment, everything is understood. I have something to look forward to after this war!

I nudge her again and Hazel looks up at me. ‘Get on my back.‘ I tell her. ‘I’ll take you to the other healers where you can be treated. His eyes widen in protest but I nudge her again. ‘You can help them too, miss apprentice healer!‘

Hazel hesitates before nodding. “R–right… that would be best… with my skills…” she carefully climbs onto my back when I lay down. I hope I don’t dirty her with the b*st*rd’s blood. “W–weren’t you protecting the pups with Queen Anna? Is this really ok?” She asks nervously.

I know who she’s worried about the most in that question: Rosalina. Her pup is also mine so I don’t mind at all. What?!‘ I growl when Peter cuts in. “You were supposed to be protecting the pups?! Why aren’t you there now?! What if they get hurt?!‘
