The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 100

Arthur froze. Then, he turned around to find a tall man standing behind him, radiating a sharp, dominating presence.

The man's features were striking—almost aggressive even in their perfection—and his eyes were locked on his hand resting on Emily's arm.

The man's look carried the weight of a blade, as if it could sever Arthur's hand where it touched Emily's.

Naturally, it was none other than Gabriel.

Instinctively, Arthur let go of Emily.

Then, without so much as a glance at Arthur, Gabriel strode straight to Emily's side.

Through the haze of drunkenness, Emily caught the familiar cedar scent—one she both loved and hated. She tilted her head up, gaze unfocused as she looked at Gabriel.

"Gabriel…" she murmured, her voice roughened by the haze of alcohol.

Gabriel didn't respond. Instead, he simply bent down, slid his arm beneath her knees and back, and effortlessly lifted her into his arms.

Emily's head rested against his solid chest, the alcohol numbing her senses enough to keep her from resisting.

Without a word, Gabriel then carried her away.

As they passed the corner, he shot a look at Roman waiting nearby.

Roman immediately understood what he meant.

While Gabriel disappeared through the doors, Roman approached the dazed Arthur with a practiced smile. "Dr. Hamilton, thank you for your kindness. But Mr. Holton will take care of Dr. Sterling. As for Dr. Prescott, I'll take care of her. You don't need to trouble yourself."

With that, he walked to the table and effortlessly pulled a completely wasted Mallory up on her feet. She was still mumbling incoherently even as her entire weight slumped against Roman.

While supporting her with one arm, Roman then turned and left as well.

Meanwhile, Arthur remained rooted in place, still clutching his empty champagne glass. At that moment, his mind was blank.

Gabriel Holton?

The way he had looked at Emily was possessive and frighteningly so, and it made Arthur wonder what exactly their relationship was.

...

Gabriel withdrew his hand and clenched it into a fist. Then, a soft sigh escaped him. It was laced with a frustration he himself didn't recognize.

Moments later, he turned and walked out before softly closing the door behind him.

Meanwhile on the bed, Emily suddenly opened her eyes. There was no trace of drunkenness in them. The alcohol may have dulled her body, but her mind was sharp and painfully clear.

Putting on that performance when Gabriel was around was exhausting.

Had he lost his mind lately?

First, he cleaned up the Sterling family's mess for her. Then, he approved her trip abroad. Now, he was even putting on a public display of possession.

What new game was he playing?

Emily couldn't figure it out, but neither did she care to. She simply closed her eyes and let herself sink into sleep.

By the time Emily woke up the next morning, the sun was already high up in the sky, and Gabriel had already left the house.
