At this moment, Gabriel was nothing like the man he was during the day. He embraced Emily tightly, rubbing his chin on the top of her head.
"Did you have a nightmare? Don't be scared. I'm here," he said.
Emily froze and stopped struggling.
She looked up at his handsome face, which looked so defenseless in his deep sleep. For some reason, she got a little teary-eyed.
The first rays of dawn shone into the living room through the floor-to-ceiling window.
Emily's eyelashes trembled a little. She opened her eyes and met an unfathomable gaze that carried a hint of curiosity and desire to tease.
Lying next to her, Gabriel was resting his head on his hand, staring at her. He seemed like he had been watching her for a long time.
Emily's mind went blank. Then, the memories from last night started flooding her brain, leaving her face flushed.
"I see that you're awake."
The usual coolness in his voice had returned, but there was a hint of playful tease. "You were so firm yesterday, sounding like you were dying to go down with me."
He lowered his head, his lips almost pressing against the ear as he said, "What's the matter? Can't hold yourself back in the middle of the night, so you threw yourself into my arms?"
Emily was brimming with anger and embarrassment at that moment.
She pushed him away and sat up on the couch. She pointed at his arms and explained in an anxious and agitated tone, "You had an allergic reaction! You look pitiful, so I applied cream to you."
Gabriel sat up as well and looked down at his arms. Sure enough, there were only some faint red marks left.
He looked up and locked his gaze on her again before he asked, "Is that right? But why do I remember someone sleeping very soundly in my arms?"
Emily was at a loss for words, so she wanted to leave. However, he grabbed her wrist once again.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"Let go of me!"
"My back is itchy too," he said calmly.
Still, he was being assertive and wouldn't take no for an answer.
Emily looked back and met his deep gaze.
"You have hands, don't you?" she asked.
Gabriel said nothing. He just slowly undid the belt of his bathrobe in front of her.
His strong back muscles were fully exposed before her eyes. And sure enough, there were a few red marks left behind.
