Emily simply nodded and closed the door.

Then, the black car hummed to life before slowly driving away.

Meanwhile, Damien stood in place, watching the car until it disappeared. Then, he straightened to his full height and pulled out his phone.

He scrolled through it until he found Amelia's number, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he typed out his message.

"Our partnership is over. Don't contact me anymore."

His gaze was icy as he sent the message and pocketed his phone again.

If Amelia wanted to use him as her metaphorical gun to deal with her enemies, she needed to get him to listen to her orders first and foremost.

Soon, the black car stopped on a wide and empty road.

Damien's driver didn't dare drop Emily off at her home, so he had stopped the car somewhere a short distance away from her apartment.

Emily opened the door and got out of the car. She strolled along the sidewalk, concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other.

Under the streetlights, her shadow was stretched long and thin.

Slowly, a black Bentley silently drove up next to her before coming to a stop. The window then rolled down to reveal Gabriel's cold yet handsome face.

He was wearing a black shirt and had undone the top two buttons. His sleeves were also carelessly rolled up to his elbows, as if he had been in a rush to put them on.

Emily halted her footsteps.

What was he doing here?

Gabriel gave Emily a onceover. His lips pressed into a thin line, and his jaw tightened.

He looked both anxious and furious.

Surprisingly, some of the tension in Emily's body seeped out of her the moment she laid eyes on Gabriel—though she swiftly shut down that line of thinking.

Her lips twitched as she asked, "It's so late, Mr. Holton. Are you going for a joyride?"
