Amelia's eyes darkened. She didn't understand how Emily was so lucky all the time.
In that instant, she decided that she refused to stand on the sidelines and do nothing. She had to come up with a plan to crush Emily to the point where she would never get up again.
Suddenly, she recalled how Gabriel thought of Emily as a woman who would do anything for money.
So, she decided that she was going to show Gabriel just how "low" Emily was willing to stoop for the sake of money.
Amelia retrieved a spare phone from her bag and dialed a number. She then flipped through the photos that the private investigator had snapped of Emily and searched the Internet for pictures of Damien when he had appeared on the news.
Damien's face was pudgy in the photos, and his eyes were glinting fiercely. Anyone could tell with a single glance that he was a good-for-nothing.
Amelia transferred the photos and a large sum of money to the person on the other end of the line.
"I want you to edit these two people into the same photo. Make the background a hotel room and make it look like they're being intimate. Got it? Make it look like she's the one who's throwing herself at Damien."
Amelia wickedly smiled once her plans had been set into motion.
She recalled the way Emily carried herself in an aloof manner and became even more determined to tear that hypocritical mask off her face. She was going to ensure that Emily would never dare show her face in front of Gabriel again.
…
In the president's office, Gabriel was tugging at his tie in frustration as his mind replayed the scene of him abandoning Emily by the sidewalk.
Why had he lost control? Why had he left just because of her sharp words?
But what was even more unbelievable was that he felt worried about her when he should hate her. After all, if she hadn't had ulterior motives when she'd crawled into his bed all those years ago, he wouldn't have been forced to marry her.
Gabriel's mind was spiraling into a chaotic mess of emotions when he noticed his phone screen lighting up.
It was a message from an unknown sender.
Gabriel was going to ignore it, but he inexplicably decided to grab his phone and look at the message.
Instantly, a set of explicit photos filled his vision.
The background of the photos suggested that they had been taken in a cheap and dimly-lit hotel room. In the photos, Emily's clothes were disheveled as she lay in Damien's arms. Her face was flushed, and she had her hands around him in an intimate manner.
There was a provocative message printed near the bottom of the photo too.
"Mr. Holton, I bet you didn't know that your wife slept with a man named Damien Anderson today to pay off her brother's gambling debt. Are you still going to stay with her now that she has betrayed you?"
Gabriel felt like an explosion had gone off in his head.
So, everything that had transpired that night hadn't been a coincidence.
"Gabriel, what are you doing? Let go of me! We're at the hospital!" Emily's wrist painfully throbbed as she struggled to free herself.
However, her words fell on deaf ears. Gabriel didn't say a word and simply dragged her out of her car and forced her into his own. Then, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
With that, the engine roared to life before the car sped away.
No one said a thing during the entire journey.
Meanwhile, Emily felt her heart sinking lower and lower as she watched the scenery outside the car window zoom by in a blur of colors.
This wasn't the way to the Holton residence.
The car finally stopped in front of a private villa that was built at the halfway point of a mountain. Then, Gabriel forced Emily to get out of the car and nearly had to drag her into the villa.
Soon, the heavy villa door slammed shut behind her.
Gabriel threw Emily onto the cold marble floor, and by then, her wrist had already turned red and swollen.
Emily looked rather pathetic as she pushed herself back up to her feet, but she had reached the end of her patience in dealing with Gabriel's sudden fits of insanity. "Have you lost your mind? Why are you trapping me here?"
Gabriel turned around and sneered at her. He then pulled out a new phone from his pocket and tossed it to her feet. "Take a look for yourself."
