The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 58

Confusion was written all across Emily's face as she bent over to pick up the phone. Then, she stiffened when she realized what she was looking at.

It was a picture of Damien and her. The sender had even edited the photo to make it look like they were in a hotel room together.

The way she looked like she was being intimate with Damien made Emily's stomach churn in disgust. There was also a provocative message printed at the bottom of the photo.

So, the photos were the reason for Gabriel's fit of insanity.

Emily lifted her head and looked into Gabriel's eyes that were burning with anger and mockery. "This isn't me," she said. "You would rather believe in a few photos with sketchy origins than believe me?"

"Believe you?" Gabriel asked as he intimidatingly stalked toward her. "You crawled into my bed for the sake of money all those years ago. Now, you've sold your body to a loan shark to pay off your brother's debt.

"Why should I believe you, Emily?"

Emily's entire body shook in anger, and her chest violently heaved.

It seemed that in Gabriel's heart, she was nothing but a dirty and despicable woman who would do anything for the sake of money. Any explanation now was completely useless against his prejudiced view of her.

It was incredibly laughable how she had harbored a sliver of hope toward him.

"That's right," Emily declared as she lifted her chin and stubbornly stared at Gabriel. "I'm that type of person, but you should already know that right, Mr. Holton?

"What's the point of locking me up if I'm such an eyesore? You can avoid looking at me altogether if you'd let me go."

Gabriel roughly grasped Emily's chin the moment those words left her mouth. He exerted so much force that it felt like he could crush the bones in her jaw.

The thought of Emily looking for other men if he let her go free nearly drove Gabriel insane. He didn't know why he was so bothered by the idea of it, but all he knew was that he would definitely never let her go.

Gabriel's rage overpowered his rationality, and he decided that he had to punish Emily for betraying their marriage by selling her own body for Cole's sake. After all, there was no telling what she would do next if he didn't punish her for her transgressions now.

"You are to stay here from today onward. You're not allowed to go anywhere else. You're only allowed to leave once you've admitted your mistakes."

Gabriel then shoved Emily aside and turned around to leave.

At the next moment, the sound of the door being locked from outside resounded clearly into the villa.

Emily collapsed onto the ground, feeling like all the strength in her body had fled her. She stared at the door for a long time before staggering back to her feet and grabbing her phone.

She was going to call Mallory. After all, there was no way she was going to allow Gabriel to trap her here.

However, her hopes were dashed when she unlocked her phone and read the words "No Signal" in the upper left corner of the screen.

The villa had been built in a dead zone.

Emily truly couldn't believe how cruel Gabriel was.

Mallory was holding a medical report as she searched through the department of cardiothoracic surgery in the municipal hospital. But no matter where she looked, she couldn't catch even a glimpse of Emily's familiar silhouette.

"Where's Dr. Sterling?" she asked a nurse that was passing by.

The nurse halted her footsteps and answered, "Don't you know? Dr. Sterling is on leave today."

Mallory was stunned by the nurse's response.

Amelia wanted to meet Emily, but Gabriel never strayed too far from the villa these days, guarding it day in and day out. So, she had to come up with a plan to lure him away.

Her eyes then fell upon an opened folder when she brought her cup of coffee back to her desk.

Soon, a plan began to swiftly form in her mind, and she quickly used the company's internal phone and dialed the extension for the projects department.

A few moments later, a triumphant smile stretched across her lips.

Amelia drove to the villa that Emily was trapped in, but she didn't get out of her car. Instead, she called Gabriel's personal phone.

The call rang for a long time before he finally picked up. "What is it?"

"I'm sorry, Gabe. I know that I shouldn't be disturbing you now," Amelia said in an anxious and helpless voice. "It's just that something urgent came up at the company. It's about Project Starlight.

"I just received news from the projects department that our main competitor, Lupier Group, wants to have a private meeting with us before the bidding starts. They specifically asked you to be in attendance for the meeting. It's set for this afternoon, and even the venue has been decided.

"They'll assume that we're giving up the right to bid for the project if we don't show up for the meeting."

The line was silent for a long time, and Amelia's palm was sweating slightly as she gripped her phone, patiently waiting for Gabriel's response.

She knew that he would definitely attend the meeting. After all, he was a businessman, and chasing after profits was in his nature. He definitely wouldn't let a golden opportunity like this slip through his fingers for a woman who had completely embarrassed him.

As expected, Gabriel's icy voice echoed from the receiver a few seconds later, "Send the address to me."
