Amelia's eyes widened when she heard Robert's name.
She knew exactly who he was and what he had been to Emily, but she hadn't known he had come back from overseas and met with her.
It felt like the perfect chance.
Instantly, Amelia pieced together a plan.
She understood Gabriel's possessiveness better than anyone. He never allowed anyone to touch what was his.
If she could make Gabriel believe that Emily and Robert were tangled together, she might finally replace Emily and become Gabriel's wife.
...
Darkness draped itself over the city.
The Nightfall Club was the most exclusive spot in Crestmont. Inside, Robert sat alone at the bar, throwing back whiskey like water. The amber liquor reflected the restless fury burning in his eyes.
He couldn't shake the image of Emily's pale face and the brutal wound at her throat.
He wanted to protect her but realized he couldn't.
Just then, a soft voice came from beside him, "Mr. Dowling?"
Robert impatiently looked up and saw a woman standing there in a Chanel suit with flawless makeup.
He recognized her instantly. It was Amelia, the goody-two-shoes who always hovered around Gabriel.
Robert grew even more impatient. He had no desire to deal with Amelia, so he simply turned away and kept drinking.
But Amelia didn't flinch. She merely slid onto the stool beside Robert, ordered a whiskey, then tipped her head and sighed. "I saw Emily today."
Robert's eyes widened. "What are you talking about?"
"Find someone. Or do it yourself." Despite her sweet voice, her words were laced with malice. "Drug her. Then, take photos or record a video, and spread it everywhere.
"Gabriel cares about his image more than anything. He'll never keep a woman who's betrayed him. Once it's all out in the open, he'll have no choice but to divorce her. That's the only way Emily can ever be free of that devil."
Robert stared at Amelia.
He didn't think a woman could be this vicious. Her plan wouldn't save Emily. If anything, it would shove her into a deeper hell!
Rage and disgust surged so hard within Robert that he almost reached across the bar and strangled the words back down Amelia's throat.
Meanwhile, Amelia acted like she didn't see the murderous glint in his eyes. She simply held his gaze and said, "I know it's extreme, and it's unfair to Emily too. But it's the only way."
