The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 459

Jane hurried to comfort her daughter. “Kathy, don’t be afraid. I’m here, and I won’t let anything happen to you.”

She spun around, anger flashing in her eyes as she faced Rebecca. “Rebecca, you’re going too far! Kathy is our daughter. We won’t let you hurt her.”

Rebecca stared back, her voice icy. “So even if she’s done something wrong, you’re just going to cover for her forever?”

Jane’s tone hardened. “Kathy is a good girl. She must’ve been set up. Don’t just take Byron’s word for it. Who knows if you yourself provoked Byron and got yourself into trouble? I believe Kathy would never do something like that.”

Rebecca let out a cold, sharp laugh. “Set up? Byron already confessed. He said Katherine put him up to it. If you want to keep your eyes and heart shut, fine—but now it seems your ears don’t work either.”

Jane was about to explode when suddenly the sound of sirens cut through the tension, and a police car pulled up outside.

Rebecca had already called the police before she came.

As uniformed officers entered, Hogan and Jane exchanged worried glances. Dread settled over them—they’d never imagined Rebecca would actually go to the police.

A staff member approached Katherine. “Ms. Foster, you’re being accused of conspiring with Byron to commit assault. Please come with us.”

Katherine, having never experienced anything like this before, immediately panicked. “That’s not true! I didn’t do anything with Byron!”

She looked desperately at her parents. “Dad, Mom, please say something, help me…”

Seeing things escalate, Hogan sprang forward, his tone forceful. “Officer, my daughter hasn’t done anything wrong! Don’t you dare accuse her of something she didn’t do. As long as I’m here, you are not taking my daughter anywhere!”

With that avenue closed, Jane turned to Rebecca, desperation in her eyes. “Rebecca, what do you want? Tell them to let Kathy go, right now!”

Rebecca arched an eyebrow at the officers, her voice edged with mockery. “See that? She’s threatening me now. Who knows—maybe I should be worried for my own safety next.”

The officer addressed Jane sharply. “Mrs. Foster, you’re now suspected of threatening the victim and endangering her personal safety. If you continue like this, you’ll be coming with us too.”

The warning made Jane’s face burn with anger, but she didn’t dare make another move.

Hogan took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm as he looked at Rebecca. “Rebecca, we’re going to get to the bottom of this. If Kathy really did something wrong, I’ll make sure you get a proper explanation. There was no need to call the police and have her dragged off like this. If you’re willing to settle this privately, I’m open to making things right—whatever you want, just say the word.”
