Ever since moving in with Grant, Samantha had gotten used to his occasional absences, chalking them up to work dinners and social obligations. She never really cared whether he was home or not.
But that day, when Grant came back, Samantha noticed a curly strand of hair on his jacket, a stark contrast to her own straight locks. A wave of betrayal washed over her. He repulsed her; he was unfaithful, and she couldn’t bear the thought of being with someone who was disloyal in both body and heart. Once, she had believed he truly cared for her.
The next morning, Samantha quietly tailed Grant.
He went about his day, clocked out of work, and headed straight to a swanky villa. At the doorstep, a voluptuous woman greeted him with a tight hug and a passionate kiss, shattering Samantha's heart into pieces.
She had thought she was part of a love story where he loved her more than she loved him. Instead, she was just one of his many flings.
Devastated by the revelation, Samantha's resentment towards Cordelia deepened for tossing her into the arms of such a man.
Clenching her fist, she whispered bitterly, “Cordelia.”
When Grant got home, Samantha confronted him, expressing her disgust and refusal to live with such a man. If he had affairs, he should let her go, and she would repay any money owed.
“Oh, really? How much do you plan to pay back? Remember, debts accrue interest, sweetheart. Five million, compounded!” Grant taunted.
“I can pay!” Samantha retorted, remembering the substantial savings from her acting gigs, which provided her a comfortable life even though she wasn’t landing roles anymore.
Grant sneered, “I brought you here for a reason, and it wasn’t to marry you. Drop the fantasy.”
Samantha, her pride wounded, shot back, “I refuse to be anyone’s mistress. I want to be someone’s lawfully wedded wife, and that’s not you!”
“To be my wife? Maybe in your next life,” Grant mocked her dreams.
