The news of Cordelia's second pregnancy spread like wildfire, and pretty soon, Alana and Whitney were in the loop.
Since August had returned, Alana had been getting better, almost erasing the traces of her previous illness. But learning about Eason’s affair had cast a shadow over her, and with August back in Finland, she had no outlet for her frustration, which killed her appetite.
Cordelia shared her pregnancy joy with Alana, but it was clear that Alana wasn’t as excited as Whitney. Alana seemed lost in her own world.
Cordelia decided not to push it.
Ronan, Alana’s mother-in-law, had never gotten along with her. She found Alana aloof and indifferent, detached from everything around her. Even though Alana lived at Pearl Palms, she acted superior, like she didn’t belong. Her heart seemed tied to someone else, making those around her feel left out.
Once, Alana’s coldness was blamed on her illness, but since August’s return, her health had miraculously bounced back. Still, she remained stubborn, giving August the cold shoulder, barely interacting with anyone, living in her own proud little bubble. Even Cordelia felt the chill from her demeanor.
Cordelia understood Ronan’s viewpoint but couldn’t fault her. In this situation, Alana wasn’t exactly making herself likable. Once the darling of the Keegan family, she no longer held that title. Plus, it seemed she never truly saw Cordelia as her daughter, maybe because they were separated at a young age, leaving a gap where familial love should have been.
Since August returned, he seemed warmer than Alana ever was.
The only person Alana seemed to care about was August.
Since he left, she’d lost her appetite entirely.
Despite Ronan’s complaints, Cordelia was at a loss for words.
Ronan was fiery, and you couldn’t just dismiss her feelings.
Thankfully, Aunt Whitney was around, down-to-earth and a natural peacemaker, keeping the family bonds strong.
