The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 121

She was just the stand-in bride, a little mistake. Sure, he’d been drawn to her for a while, swept up by a quick rush of desire, but he didn’t love her.

His heart was with Jessa.

Jessa was the one he wanted.

He hated being stuck between two women. It was time for things with Ella to end.

Late that night, Fiona heard a knock at her door. She wrapped herself in a robe and went to answer it. “Who’s there?”

Ella stood outside, holding nothing but the pale yellow vest Grandma Chelsea had given her. She looked at Fiona with a tired, crooked smile. “Fiona, I’m homeless again. Can I crash with you tonight?”

Fiona wasted no time pulling her inside. Ella’s hands were freezing. Fiona rubbed them between her own, worry written all over her face. “Ella, what happened? Why are you out here alone at this hour? It’s not safe.”

Ella gave a weary smile. “Jessa fell down the stairs today. She told David he couldn’t share a room with me, so he kicked me out.”

Fiona stopped in her tracks, then wrapped Ella in a tight hug. “Those two are unbelievable.”

Tears welled up in Fiona’s eyes and her voice trembled. “How could they treat you like this?”

The next morning, Ella went to Central College to register. Thanks to Alberto, everything was already set up. She joined class twelve in the medical department.

She chose a seat at the very back, sitting by herself. Her new classmates seemed nice, introducing themselves with easy smiles.

The room buzzed with excitement. “Mr. Lynch is teaching us today,” someone whispered. “He’s a legend in medicine, completely devoted to his work.”

“He barely teaches anymore,” another added. “This class was added at the last minute. We’re so lucky.”

Mr. Lynch—Alberto—was a familiar name to Ella.

She hadn’t slept much last night, and now exhaustion hit her like a wave. She yawned, laid her head on the desk, and let her eyes drift closed for a quick nap.
