The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 149

Ella hadn’t expected anything from him. She knew he wouldn’t spend the night with her. Jessa would never allow it.

But did he really have to make her feel so small?

“David, do you hate me that much? Fine. I’ll make sure you never have to see me again.”

Without waiting for a response, Ella turned on her heel and walked away.

Another fight. Another messy ending.

David’s jaw was set as he strode into his office, his expression unreadable. He dove straight into a pile of urgent paperwork, trying to shake off the encounter.

Minutes later, Jessa walked in, her eyes bright with excitement. “David, when are we leaving for Central College? Doctor E is giving her lecture today. We might actually get to see her in person.”

Jessa had been born with a heart condition. For her, Doctor E was hope. She’d been disappointed twice before when the doctor hadn’t shown up. Today felt different. Today, Doctor E was actually here.

David hadn’t forgotten. He was just as curious as everyone else. Who was this brilliant, mysterious doctor everyone talked about?

He signed off on the last document and stood. “Let’s get going.”

Central College was buzzing when Ella arrived. The whole campus was alive with energy. Banners welcoming Doctor E hung everywhere.

Camera crews from every major station in Rockford Bay had gathered, hoping for a glimpse or maybe even an exclusive interview. All eyes were on this one lecture.

Ella glanced at her phone. The lecture was about to start. She needed to get backstage.

Before she could move, Maureen and Sarah spotted her.

Maureen scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. “Ella, what are you even doing here? Do you know what a big deal today is? Doctor E is here. The rest of us barely slept last night, we were so excited, and we’ve been here since morning. Are you trying to embarrass Central College by making a scene?”

Sarah snickered. “Don’t bother with her, Maureen. The only thing Ella’s going to do during Doctor E’s lecture is take a nap.”

Ella didn’t bother replying. She just kept quiet.

Before she could finish, Mr. Lynch’s voice echoed from the lecture hall. “Doctor E is about to arrive. The lecture’s starting. Please take your seats.”

The crowd stirred, excitement buzzing in the air.

Maureen wasted no time. “Let’s stop wasting time on Ella. We need good seats for Doctor E.”

Jessa shot Ella a look of pure contempt before looping her arm through David’s. “Come on, David. Let’s go.”

David didn’t say a word. He just led Jessa, Maureen, and Sarah into the lecture hall.

Ella was left standing there, alone. They really didn’t care about her at all.

She let out a slow breath, then felt her phone buzz.

Alberto: Are you here yet?

Ella’s lips curled into a quiet smile. I’m here.
