Nobody wanted her here. Everyone just wanted her gone.
Ella felt ridicuous. Her eyes, cold and clear, swept over Rachel, Jessa, and Peter. She yanked her slender arm out of David’s grasp and gave a small, mocking smile. “Fine. I’ll leave.”
Just remember, it was you who told me to go.
She turned around and walked out.
But she didn’t get far. Ella spun back, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “David, do you even know why I came to Central Hospital today?”
David glanced at her, taking in her pale, delicate face. Her skin was so fair it almost glowed, soft and flawless, making her look even more striking.
His expression was icy, completely uninterested. His voice was cold as ever. “Ella, if you keep making a scene, people are going to get sick of you.”
Ella stepped closer, flashing him a bright, almost mischievous smile. “Actually, I came to find an specialist for you.”
She pulled out a small, yellowed card and handed it to him. “Here, this is for you.”
David looked down at the card. It looked like something slipped through a door when no one was looking.
On the card, it said: Traditional herbalist, specializes in treating impotence, premature issues, infertility. Find your manhood again.
David’s usually calm face cracked a little. He said nothing.
Ella slipped the card into his suit pocket. “Jessa needs help, but you do too, David. Take care of yourselves.”
Then she turned and walked away.
David’s hands balled into fists at his sides. Somehow, she always found a way to get under his skin.
“David, just let it go,” Jessa said from her bed. “She’s not worth it.”
Rachel nodded. “Yeah. Where’s Doctor E?”
The room grew tense as soon as that name was mentioned.
Doctor E was Jessa’s only hope.
David checked his watch. Their appointment time had already passed, but Doctor E still hadn’t shown up.
Just then, a nurse entered. “David.”
Jessa, Peter, and Rachel all looked up, eyes bright with hope. “Is Doctor E here?”
The nurse turned to David. “Doctor E has already been here.”
What?
David gazed down the hallway. He didn’t see anyone—just caught a glimpse of a slim figure turning the corner which belonged to Ella.
He frowned. “I didn’t see Doctor E.”
The nurse explained, “She came, but she’s already left.”
“Why?” Jessa, Peter, and Rachel were stunned. “Why would she leave? She hasn’t treated Jessa yet.”
The nurse looked apologetic. “I’m sorry. Doctor E said she won’t be treating Ms. Irvine.”
Jessa’s face went completely white. Doctor E wouldn’t help her.
Why?
All the hope in the room vanished, replaced by shock and confusion.
She didn’t look back, just got into a taxi and left.
...
In the taxi, Ella sat in the back seat, pulled out a piece of candy from her bag, and unwrapped it carefully.
The driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror. She wore a simple dress, her presence calm and elegant. Up close, her skin looked almost see-through and she seemed so delicate, she might break at any moment.
He had a daughter about her age. He smiled kindly. “You like sweets, don’t you?”
Ella looked up, her hair blowing around her face in the breeze. She smiled gently. “Yeah. A little sugar takes the bitterness away.”
...
Rachel stood frozen, watching the taxi disappear down the street.
Someone approached. “Mrs. Irvine.”
She turned to see Dr. Harold, the director from Central Hospital.
She hurried over. “Dr. Harold, you know everyone. Is there any way you can help me get Doctor E to treat Jessa?”
Dr. Harold nodded. “Actually, I know Doctor E. I can introduce you.”
Rachel’s eyes lit up. “Really? Thank you so much.”
Dr. Harold glanced toward the direction Ella had gone, a sly smile creeping onto his face. “Was that your daughter from the countryside? I didn’t realize she was so beautiful. For a second, I thought I saw an angel.”
Rachel’s smile disappeared, replaced by a calm and cold look.
