He left.
Ella wasn’t upset about him walking out. What really got to her was what he did before he left.
How could he just toss a necklace like that into the trash? Seriously?
That necklace was worth over ten million. Even if you had money to burn, you couldn’t just throw it away like that.
Ella darted over to the trash can and pulled out the fancy shopping bag. Luckily, it wasn’t dirty or ruined. That would’ve been such a waste.
She went back to her dorm room, sat at her vanity, and opened the velvet box. The red carnelian and ice-bright diamonds shimmered under the light. It was so beautiful it almost didn’t feel real.
David always had great taste. He was the kind of guy born into money, the heir who just knew what looked good.
Anything he picked was guaranteed to be special.
Ella had money herself, but she almost never bought stuff like this. And this was the first gift David had ever given her.
She lifted the necklace and fastened it around her neck.
Her neck was long and elegant, and her collarbones were delicate. The red carnelian made her look both seductive and striking.
She grabbed her phone, snapped a quick photo, and sent it to her best friend, Fiona.
Fiona replied instantly, basically screaming in text. “OMG, you look amazing! Obsessed!”
Ella grinned and messaged back, “Mr. Harmon gave it to me.”
Fiona’s tone shifted. “Wait, the jerk gave it to you? Ella, what did you do? He just hands you a carnelian necklace like it’s nothing.”
Ella felt her cheeks heat up. She’d already figured it out. The necklace was a reward.
He really did know how to spoil his girl.
Ella typed, “Should I just put it back in the trash?”
Fiona: “Would you really?”
Ella: “No way.”
That necklace cost a fortune.
Fiona: “Then keep it.”
Ella: “Keep it?”
He went to give it to her as soon as he got back.
But she rejected it and told him not to come looking for her.
David’s face was stormy. Then his phone chimed with a message.
It was Ella’s screenshot.
“No way.”
“I love it.”
“He thinks it’s in the trash. He’ll never know I picked it up and kept it.”
He finished reading just as the message disappeared. She’d deleted it.
David couldn’t help himself. He smiled, almost laughing. He opened his stickers and sent one over.
Back in her dorm, Ella kept telling herself it was nothing. There’s no way the CEO of a major company would see a message this fast. She could just pretend nothing ever happened.
But then, a reply from Hubby popped up on her screen…
