The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 2

David and Jessa were the couple everyone talked about, the golden pair of the city. Everyone knew Jessa, the Rose of Rockford Bay, was the one David adored most. But three years ago, everything changed. A car accident left David in a coma, and Jessa vanished.

That was when the Irvine family brought Ella back from the countryside, demanding she marry David in her sister’s place. When Ella realized he was the man she’d secretly loved for years, she didn’t hesitate. She married him willingly.

Three long years passed. David never woke up, and Ella never left his side. She took care of him every day, barely sleeping, never going out or seeing friends. Her whole life revolved around hoping he’d recover. She became the kind of housewife who faded into the background, living only for him. And finally, he woke up.

Ella found a lighter and lit the candles on his birthday cake. In the soft flicker, she caught her reflection in the mirror. A woman in plain black and white dresses stared back at her. She looked so dull, so lifeless, like she’d forgotten how to be anything but a caretaker.

Meanwhile, Jessa had become a prima ballerina. She was beautiful, vibrant, the very picture of life and youth. Ella felt like the ugly duckling, and Jessa was the graceful white swan.

Now that David had recovered, he went straight back to Jessa, leaving Ella behind without a second thought. The past three years felt like a cruel joke. David never loved her, but she loved him.

People say the first to fall in love always loses. Tonight, David made sure she lost completely.

Tears stung Ella’s eyes as she blew out the candles. The villa was swallowed in darkness again.

Just then, headlights swept across the windows. David’s Rolls Royce pulled onto the lawn, its arrival breaking the silence. Ella’s heart skipped. He actually came home. She’d been sure he wouldn’t.

A moment later, the door opened and David stepped inside, tall and elegant, carrying the cool night air with him. He was back.

The Harmon family had always been at the top in Rockford Bay. David was famous for his business talent. He earned two master’s degrees from Harvard at sixteen, launched his first company on Wall Street, and took over Harmon Corporation, becoming the city’s youngest billionaire.

David walked in, his deep voice carrying a chill. “Why are the lights off?”
