Ella looked him straight in the eye, her voice gentle but unshakable. “Let’s get a divorce, David. Do you like your birthday present?”
David didn’t even flinch. “You want a divorce just because I missed your birthday?”-
“Jessa’s back, isn’t she?” Ella shot back.
David’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile at the mention of Jessa.
He took a step closer, covering the distance between them in a heartbeat. “So you’re jealous of Jessa?”
David was the youngest legend in the business world, and it showed in every confident move he made. As he came closer, the air changed. Ella instinctively stepped back.
The wall was suddenly at her back, its cool surface making her shiver.
Before she could react, David was right there, looming over her, one hand braced against the wall beside her head. She was trapped between his broad chest and the wall, nowhere to go.
He looked down at her, a sneer playing at his lips. “Everyone in Rockford Bay knows Jessa was supposed to be Mrs. Harmon. Did you really not know that when you schemed your way into becoming my wife? You didn’t care back then, so what’s with the drama now?”
Ella felt the blood drain from her face.
He was right. Jessa was always the one. If it weren’t for his coma, Ella would never have been the bride.
She remembered the day he woke up. He had stared at her with such clear disappointment and coldness. That memory still stung.
They’d slept in separate rooms ever since. He never touched her.
He loved Jessa.
She’d always known, but still…
Ella stared up at David, his handsome face blurring with memories of the boy she once knew. David, do you really not remember me?
Turns out she was the only one still living in the past.
