The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 201

“I don’t know her,” he said.

Without another word, he strode away, long legs carrying him and the group of executives into the lavish private room.

Ella stood frozen for a moment.

Monica, who’d been hiding behind her, forgot all about crying. The color returned to her pale cheeks, a soft blush spreading as she watched David’s tall, striking figure disappear, completely spellbound.

After David left, Mr. Johnson turned to Ella, a sneer in his voice. “So you’re Mrs. Harmon, huh? Funny, because Mr. Harmon says he’s never met you. Guess that makes you a liar.”

Clearly out of patience, Mr. Johnson snapped, “Grab them.”

Two bodyguards in black suits stepped forward and roughly grabbed Ella and Monica.

Monica fought back, struggling in their grip. “Let me go!”

Ella stayed surprisingly calm. She had a few hidden tricks, silver needles and a fast-acting sedative tucked away. As long as she could get Mr. Johnson alone in a room, she was sure she could get Monica out safely.

While she quietly calculated her next move, Mr. Johnson waved his hand. “Take them to the car.”

The bodyguards pushed them forward, but before they could get far, a voice called out from behind.

“Mr. Johnson, hold on a second.”

Mr. Johnson turned and saw Mr. Scott step out from David’s private room.

“Mr. Scott, hello.”

“Mr. Johnson, Mr. Harmon wants you to come in and have a drink.”

Mr. Johnson’s face lit up. An invitation from David was a big deal. “Absolutely, I’ll be right there.”

Ella looked across the table at David. He lifted his eyes, meeting hers with a cool, almost bored expression. The corner of his mouth curled up, maybe in amusement, maybe in disdain. She honestly couldn’t tell.

She just wished Mr. Johnson would stop talking.

“Can you believe it? She’s got guts, calling herself Mrs. Harmon.”

“These college girls are getting pretty sharp. Always looking for the richest man in the room.”

“I bet half the girls at Central College have their eyes on Mr. Harmon.”

Their laughter echoed around her. Ella’s small face flushed, embarrassed and angry all at once.

Then Mr. Johnson stood, raising his glass. “Mr. Harmon, let me toast to you.”

David didn’t even bother to stand. He looked relaxed, almost lazy, watching Ella with that same unreadable gaze. He didn’t reach for the glass. Instead, his voice was soft but clear. “Let her bring it to me.”
