The maids could hardly contain themselves, chattering in awe over Maureen like she was a movie star.
Down the staircase came Grandma Jill, Logan, and Ruby, all dressed to impress and clearly in high spirits. The moment Grandma Jill spotted Ella, her warm smile disappeared. “Ella, Maureen’s bringing Doctor E home for dinner tonight. You better keep quiet and stay out of trouble. If you embarrass us in front of Doctor E, you’ll regret it.”
Logan and Ruby barely spared Ella a glance. “Mom, Maureen and Doctor E are almost here. Let’s go outside and welcome them.”
Right as Logan finished , a sleek luxury car rolled up onto the front lawn. Maureen stepped out, her arm looped through Doctor E’s. She looked stunning in her long dress, every inch the picture of confidence and happiness.
She made her way inside and beamed at her family. “Grandma, Mom, Dad, let me introduce you. This is Doctor E, my boyfriend.”
All eyes turned to Doctor E, and it was obvious Grandma Jill, Logan, and Ruby were instantly impressed. “Doctor E, we’ve heard so much about you. It’s wonderful to finally meet.”
Ella took a closer look at Doctor E. He was tall, good-looking, dressed in a sharp shirt and slacks, a luxury watch gleaming on his wrist. He looked every bit the perfect gentleman. Most people would never guess there was anything off about him. Maureen seemed completely convinced.
Doctor E smiled, totally at ease. “Grandma Jill, Mr. and Mrs. Irvine, it’s so nice to finally meet you. I brought a few gifts for everyone.” His driver appeared with an armful of expensive-looking presents.
Grandma Jill’s face lit up even more. “Doctor E, you really didn’t have to. Come in, please.”
She led Doctor E and Maureen inside. The hallway buzzed with excitement and Ella got pushed aside, tucked away in a corner where no one paid her any attention.
“Doctor E, Maureen, dinner’s almost ready. Once everyone’s here, we can start,” Grandma Jill said, sounding pleased.
Jessa looked absolutely gorgeous in her elegant dress, her makeup on point, glowing like a rose in full bloom. David, dressed in a black suit, was the picture of quiet confidence and charm.
He walked into the living room and locked eyes with Doctor E. “So, you’re Doctor E?”
Doctor E greeted him with an easy smile and reached out his hand. “Mr. Harmon, we’ve missed each other a few times. Don’t worry about Ms. Irvine’s condition, I’ve got it covered. It’s great to finally meet you.”
David gave him a quick look, then shook his hand.
Grandma Jill could hardly contain her happiness. She grabbed David’s hand with one of hers and Doctor E’s with the other. “Jessa and Maureen really are the pride of the Irvine family. Now I have not just one, but two incredible grandsons-in-law. One is Mr. Harmon, the other is Doctor E. The Irvine family’s future will be bright!”
