The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 226

Ella lay on her side, facing away from him. David sat at the edge of the bed. For anyone looking in, they could have been any couple in the middle of a fight.

David’s hands tightened into fists. After a heavy silence, he managed just one word. “Okay.”

He stood up and walked out.

He was gone.

As soon as the door closed, tears spilled down Ella’s cheeks again. She yanked the blanket over her face, trying to hide from the world. It was nothing, she told herself. Just one night. He didn’t care about her. She’d just pretend it never happened.

But her heart still hurt. It hurt so much she could barely breathe.

She knew, deep inside, that she was still hopelessly in love with David.

So much that it hurt.

After that day, Ella and David didn’t speak again. Meanwhile, Monica was everywhere.

Monica had suddenly joined the biggest reality show in the country, and her sweet and innocent image made her an overnight sensation. People started calling her the “Girl Next Door.” She picked up millions of fans and became the hottest new celebrity.

Rumor had it Monica was about to land the lead role in Mr. Pica’s new movie, The Grand Age. She was also scoring covers on all the major magazines and signing endorsement deals left and right. Her commercial value was off the charts. Monica’s rise in the entertainment world was like strapping herself to a rocket. She was getting opportunities that most people could only dream of. She was a star now, no question.

One evening, Ella and Lilly headed to Royal Hotel for dinner. As soon as they reached the entrance, a group of security guards in black suits rushed over. “Move aside! Don’t block the way!”

One guard pushed at them, shoving Ella and Lilly into the corner. They even set up a security line.

Monica slipped off her sunglasses. Her makeup was minimal, just enough to look flawless. She gave a little smile. “Cory, hi. We know each other, remember? I used to work here.”

“Oh, Monica, I wouldn’t dare forget. I must have been blind before. Your private suite is ready. Please, come this way.”

With the manager leading, Monica and her entourage swept grandly into the hotel.

Lilly stared, lost for words. “Ella, is that even Monica? She seems like a totally different person.”

Ella watched Monica’s carefree, confident smile and felt a pang. “Yeah. She really does.”

At that moment, Monica turned and her eyes landed on them.
